I think this year's BC has some really outstanding talent at the top but is seriously lacking in depth. I think that once u get past Discreet Cat, Bernardini, and Lava Man, the Classic is a pretty weak field. Hopefully Shirocco goes there to liven it up a bit. But I'd actually rather see him in the Turf. That race could be the race of the day. He would be joined by Hurricane Run, Dylan Thomas, and Cacique plus maybe a couple of others from Europe. Wouldn't it be great to have the top mares like Ouija Board and Alexandrova take on the boys in that race too instead of going in the F/M Turf? I know they didn't have the option back then to go in the restricted race but some females have fared well in the open Turf. I'm sure everyone remembers these horses:
All Along-2nd by a neck in 1984 Pebbles-won in 1985 Estrapade-3rd in 1986 Indian Skimmer-3rd by 1 1/4 in 1988 Sierra Roberta-2nd by a head in 1989 (as a 3yo) Miss Alleged-won in 1991 Hatoof-2nd by 1 1/2 in 1994 Borgia-2nd by 3/4 in 1997 (as a 3yo) I'm not expecting much from the other divisions. I think the Distaff is loaded with names but will be a disappointing race. Same with the Sprint after Henny Hughes romps. Since the afformentioned fillies will probably go in the F/M Turf, that should be a good race. Ouija Board, Alexander Goldrun, Alexandrova, Film Maker, Wait a While, Gorella, Angara, Mandesha. Should be pretty good. I don't have any excitement for the Mile as yet. I don't know any of the 2yo's well enough to have any thoughts on those races. |
