Im not sure on this, but it could be because of the meds he's on. Likely he has to come off them 24-72 hours and they want to evaluate his condition the am of the Derby. Horses coats and attitudes can change significantly when changes in medication occur. Ive been in this predicament plenty of times, although not quite with the calibur of this horse and the magnitude of this race...just a random thought...

So, are John Velazquez and Ramon Dominguez going to have Pirate's Booty embroidered across their butts?

Via the Twitterverse... "Repole on Uncle Mo at #18: if he's as great as we think he is and he's 100 percent, its a great position to be in"

We had our press conference at LAD today and we always do a "pick the Derby winner" contest for the media. If they pick the right horse, and win the drawing, their company/friends get a suite for a day at the races.

Anyway, unlike years past, no one really had any sort of idea what to do about this race... it's just not at the top of mind like it should be.

Uncle Mo losing the Wood was really a big hit, I think, to this year's race. The three weeks leading-up to the Derby would have been a totally different ballgame with him undefeated.

Hopefully the fans still bet on Saturday though... we'll see.

I. Hate. Jockey. Advertising.

If this isn't the quote of a losing horse's owner, before the race is even run, I don't know what is...

“If he’s healthy, than nobody beats him,” Repole said after Uncle Mo drew post 18 in the field of 20. “As a two-year-old, he could beat these three-year-olds. If he runs as good as he ran at two, then he’ll win.” From...

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/rac...mo-starts.aspx

That's a..."my horse is better, if he's 100%, he beats everyone, no doubt, but if he isn't 100%, he can be beat."

They say 50/50, I think it's 90/10 he doesn't run. Hope he does to play against.

It seems silly to me to be concerned about how much any one individual is betting on this race. The pool is so large that any amount less than one million will be barely noticed.

slotdirt 05-04-2011 06:50 PM

Considering we're talking about a guy who is worth multiple BILLIONS of dollars, I'm going to go ahead and say he could affect (or is it effect? Where's Justin?) the pool if that's what he wanted to do.

Rootdog1 05-04-2011 07:16 PM

I am hearing rumors louder than ever that he is scratching....of course the same people said Dialed In might as well....

Danzig 05-04-2011 07:26 PM

repole runs quite a risk with these comments. if the horse runs, and is healthy, and something were to go wrong-he'd be knee deep in an investigation worse than life at ten.
and anyone would be expected to scratch their horse if they aren't ready to run-why would anyone need to say so?

Duvalier 05-04-2011 07:28 PM

If he does hopefully it's decided soon...then maybe Repole can take a break from letting everyone know that if "Mo" was a 100% he'll win easily. Run him or scratch him...enough with the vague interviews. I'm sure there are numerous horses throughout the years who could've won the Derby if they were 100%.

I really thought finding someone less likable than than Ivarone would never happen. And yet along comes a spider.

outofthebox 05-04-2011 07:53 PM

Not Repole..Mark Cuban?

So what's gonna be said if Mo runs but gives a "Life at Ten" type performance? Will it take another 10 months to sort that out?

The guy's trying to buy part of the Mets, Repole's got to be at least a billionaire, no?
