Based on game one, this has a repeat of the 2010 series all over it. Wings control early, Sharks get a rush of questionable calls late, spend eight of the last 13 minutes on the power play, and win on a deflection in overtime moments after the Wings had killed the weakest 4:00 high sticking call that I've ever seen.

Just saying, why is it that whenever the Wings play the Sharks, the Wings are suddenly called for double their average in penalties? It's like freaking clockwork.

The 4 minutes for high sticking was ridiculous. But, of course, by rule if there is blood.......

I compare that one to the Calvin Johnson TD nullified last year.

There's got to be some discretion though. If the guy who was offended is sitting on the bench, pulling apart his beard to show the ref the drip of blood, and laughing about the penalty, it probably shouldn't be 4:00. Wallin is gutless, so was Pavelski on the Bertuzzi penalty. And I like Pavelski, mostly because he's a Yank.

What a game last night. I'm exhausted. Preds looked like a totally different team than in Game 1. Glad to see them get back on track!!! :D

Danzig 05-01-2011 05:12 PM

just saw that detroit lost again-down 2-0, but i expect a change when they play in the motor city.

caps need to get back to what they were doing much of the first period. they were manhandling tampa, but relaxed....tamp didn't, and got the road win. caps better not go to tampa down 2 games! i don't expect them to.

slotdirt 05-01-2011 08:27 PM

Blech. Just couldn't solve things on the offensive end, and Howard let in as soft a goal as they come to freaking Wallin of all people.

I'd expect one of the younger guys to sit in favor of Modano or Draper on Wednesday.

Danzig 05-01-2011 09:18 PM

i can't believe we lost again. two games in a row, a cap puts a puck in for the opponent....ugh

Not for anything Dani, after watching them against the Rangers (who really do suck) I wasn't that impressed and think that they have no chance to go all the way.

The Caps freaking blew the Rangers doors off - how was that not an impressive series?

Really? I'm with Matt. They just look OK.

On the plus side every NHL playoff game that I've watched has been fantastic.- can't say the same about the NBA

Danzig 05-02-2011 07:12 AM

i'm just concerned the caps will get completely down after two games in which they did everything necessary.

except win. the lightning went about 15 minutes without a shot on goal at one point, after two period they still hadn't reached double-digit sog's the ratio was 3-1 at the end of two periods.. the caps are preventing them from getting many opportunities at all, while they are spending the majority of their time putting heat on roloson. it's frustrating as hell.

slotdirt 05-02-2011 08:14 AM

That is because the NBA has sucked for 15 years now.

The difference between the Rangers and the Lightning is that the Lightning actually have guys who can score. Still, I think the Caps looked pretty authoritative in that first series. That being said, losing twice at home to start a series is pretty much a death sentence.

At times they did look dominate, but they couldn't score. The Rangers were in every game and very easily could have been up 3-1 instead of being down.

Scores of
2-1 Caps
2-0 Caps
3-2 NYR
4-3 Caps 2OT Prob the most impressive game for the Caps digging out of a 3-0 hole
3-1 Caps.

I really don't see where you get that they blew the Rangers doors off. Like you mentioned, the Bolts actually have guys who can fill the net. The Caps are in big trouble.

slotdirt 05-02-2011 08:29 AM

Of course they're in big trouble. But I'm going to go ahead and say when a team wins a series 4-1, the series really wasn't that close. Sure the Rangers played well for about two periods in game four, but aside from that, it was all Caps. It was readily apparent that the Rangers didn't have a chance by the end of the first game, IMO.

That being said, they're done. You don't come back from 2-0 holes on home ice. The Red Wings might also be done, but at least they're still in a home ice situation and can even the series in their own building. I'd like to see Draper or Modano make an appearance.

Danzig 05-02-2011 08:42 AM

right now our biggest issue is lack of powerplay scoring. its the same issue that klniocked us out a year ago, the complete inability to score. hopefully the caps can solve this dilemma. its not over yet, but its not looking great right now...

I don't like playing the woulda coulda shoulda game, but game one the Rangers had a 1-0 lead late in game 1 and gave up a garbage goal when Ovie just keep poking at a puck. Game 4, they had a 3 goal lead and s.hit the bed. Not taking anything away from the Caps, but the Rangers were not a good team. They were the 8 seed that backed in on the last day of the season. The series was a lot closer then you thought it was and a lot closer than it should have been.

slotdirt 05-02-2011 08:45 AM

If it was a lot closer than I thought it was, then the Rangers would have won more than one game.

That wasn't a concession that you are right, that was a concession like I make with my wife, just to throw in the towel cause it's not worth going any further.
