I cant think of one that should be re named for him. What stake do you think should be renamed for Summer Bird?

Point Given didn't complete the triple, on that note maybe Easy Goer deserves a race in his name also as the poster has mentioned. I think it's alot more appropiate to name races after horses that have done something special on the track rather than name races after geographical locations or people. If With Anticipation and Rinkaverse can have races named after them then why not horses that have had a bigger historical impact on NY racing than lesser one's. Atleast they did the right thing with Forego, but it is strange to me Secretariat is associated with Arlington Park rather than Belmont, I don't know maybe they beat them to the punch by naming the Secretariat stks after him, but it's hard not to think of him and what he did at Belmont Park.

The whole naming system is a joke.

It's a little surprising that NY doesn't have a race for him.. You'd think will all he accomplished in the state, plus who his owners were, that there would be a race named in his honor...

If it's a joke, then it's about time they start honouring horses that have had an impact on the sport, horseracing is alot about sentimentality, the stars are the horses. What is the stubborness with sticking with same outdated names of races...This reminds me of why I hate Baseball now, you have a perfect game pitched the other night, it should have been overturned but Bud sticks to some old fashioned concerpt of not overturning the call. It's ridiculous if you ask me how baseball sticks to some old etiquette. Horseracing is much the same.

Easy Goers New York wins....Cowdin, Champagne, Belmont, Travers, Jockey Club, Wood, Gotham, Whitney, Suburban and Woodward...
How in Gods green earth does he NOT have a race named after him???? It is absurb....and someone wants to give Summer Bird a stake...come on!!!!

CSC 06-04-2010 09:52 AM

Easy Goer and Summer Bird completed the Belmont/Travers/Jockey Gold Cup in the same year. They should have a race in their honour as should Secretariat for obvious reasons of what he accomplished on the dirt and turf at Belmont.

I agree they both swept the 3, but you CAN'T give Summer Bird a stake race for winning the 3 and not give Easy Goer a stake with 10 New York Graded wins...

CSC 06-04-2010 10:11 AM

Sure both should Easy Goer can have a race named after him first as long as both horses are recognized, Secretariat should have a race in his name also. I think it's ridiculous that Arlington Park has a race named in his honor and not Belmont. I seem to remember Woodbine and CD having a race named the Northern Dancer at the same time so it is not out of the ordinary, rename the Belmont Stakes "the Secretariat Belmont Stakes" or "the Secretariat Turf Classic", It's great marketing and it would make everyone feel good when they hear it. It's probably too logical and we are thus stuck in naming races after Geographical locations or people, which makes a helluva alot of sense huh?

Is there any one reason why Easy Goer does not have a stake named after him? How about Sunday Silence...is there a California Stake named after him?

The Brooklyn Hdcp and The Suburban Hdcp are due for a name change, but with the NYRA, it will probably happen in 2050.

Yeh, you know 2013 will mark the 40th anniversary of argubably the single most vivid sporting performance ever witnessed. Secretariat's Belmont win, it would be fitting if Belmont would honor this accomplishment with renaming either the Belmont stakes or the Turf Classic in which he won in track record time in his name, I'm floating the idea, I don't care if someone steals it. But it is long overdue that a race be named after him at the place where he forged so many great memories.

You asking me? Find a street or borough I guess...name it after a car, that is what a Suburban is when I hear that term.

brianwspencer 06-04-2010 10:46 AM

I've been petitioning Arlington all summer to rename the Million the Gio Ponti Invitational because he won it last year and then ran second behind the best racehorse EVAR, so I think it's pretty pathetic that he doesn't have a race named for him up here right now.

Or shorter answer: absolutely not.
