Anyone got a guess on Fly Down's odds?

Well the Hammer has been talking him up so he could be 2/1 and has no chance at winning

The curse was seen with Caracortado in the Preakness. Was running good then remembered the Hammer loved him and he didnt hit the board

Curse Lives!!!:D

I am a huge Ice Box fan but believe without a doubt that Fly Down is a better prospect for the Belmont.

It's a saying, "if you weren't there for the wedding, don't be there for the funeral" i.e. if you didn't get a piece of the horse at 25-1 when he lit up the board, don't bet him at 3-1 next time out when you're getting far less value.

If there's one thing we know about parimutuel wagering, it's that Hank Goldberg holds all the power.

Dublin is an automatic as well.

Dublin is not running in the Belmont. Will be pointed for the Haskel.

Second this one. I don't think he's far from Ice Box and will be a much better price.

I third the notion:$:

Any idea on which Zito runner Lezcano will choose to ride? I imagine that the fact Lapenta is a prominent client of Zito might come into play when it is time to make a commitment. I read that Pell is a newcomer to the sport as an owner, but other than that I don't know much about him.

Where did you hear that? Are you sure? That is so unlike D Wayne. He's never skipped a race in his life unless his horse is on life-support and usually that wouldn't even stop him.

Kasept 05-18-2010 08:19 AM

Current Belmont prospects:

1. Drosselmeyer (Mott)
2. First Dude (Romans)
3. Fly Down (Zito)
4. Game on Dude (Baffert)
5. Ice Box (Zito)
6. Make Music for Me (Barba)
7. New Madrid (Ice)
8. Setsuko (Mandella)
9. Spangled Star (R. Dutrow)
10. Stately Victor (Maker)
11. Stay Put (Margolis)
12. Uptowncharlybrown (McLaughlin)

johnny pinwheel 05-18-2010 08:28 AM

just as i thought no horses in all 3, not even the winners of the first two. have they thought about having the triple crown for 4 year olds ever instead of the current way?

randallscott35 05-18-2010 08:33 AM

Based on a report of Mandella being unhappy with a Setsuko race I would call him unlikely right now.

tjfla 05-18-2010 09:11 AM

According to site Bank the Eight is also probable for the race

Weird about Dublin tho as Lukas said he was a go like 3 hrs after the Preakness and then said it again on Sunday but whatever

This actually is a pretty ingriguing field and has the makings for a good betting race.

I see New Madrid is entered in a Turf race at Belmont on Thursday. Seems like an odd prep for the Belmont Stakes, especially if he likes the turf,
which seems likely given his pedigree.

Ingriguing ?

Is it me?

tjfla 05-18-2010 12:03 PM

I think its a great field to bet on

2 of the 3 favorites will be Ice Box and Stately Victor, both have issues

Unless a rabbit is sent out there doesnt look like alot of speed for Ice Box(Should hit the board due to fact he can get distance and some can't) and Stately Victor I am still not convinced can run on fast dirt.

There should be 13 or 14 horses, would love to see the filly go to take some money but don't look like it

New Madrid is a go-Ice just said he needs a race and the turf one is the next out there

Velazquez to ride Fly Down in Belmont
By David Grening

ELMONT, N.Y. - No more calls, please, we have a winner.

John Velazquez has been tabbed by trainer Nick Zito to ride Fly Down in the $1 million Belmont Stakes on June 5, the Hall of Fame trainer told Daily Racing Form on Tuesday morning. Coming off a decisive six-length victory in the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont on May 8, Fly Down figures to be among the top three betting choices in the Belmont along with stablemate Ice Box, the Kentucky Derby runner-up; and First Dude, the Preakness runner-up.

"Belmont Park, John Velazquez, Nick Zito, we've had good luck together," Zito, who trains Fly Down for owner Richard Pell, said from Saratoga. "Plus, I've known Johnny since he was 18. I had a lot of good jockeys wanting to ride this horse, but I went with the New York jockey."

Velazquez rode Fly Down to a third-place finish in his debut last October at Belmont.

randallscott35 05-18-2010 12:23 PM

Quite a pickup for Johnny. Lezcano picked the wrong horse IMO.
