I think there's ample scientific behavioural evidence in humans that people feel their sexuality is predestined from as early as they can remember thinking about it. It's not a choice to be attracted to the same sex, any more than it is a choice to be attracted to the opposite sex.

Looking at that within the broad spectrum of conferring evolutionary advantages to different species regarding self-perpetuation makes it even more clear that it's not "black and white" that males/females are the only desired pairing (from an evolutionary/species preservation point of view)

And it's a ridiculous 'debate,' so it's going to get derailed.

1. If people are born straight, people are also born gay. To say otherwise is to question the legitimacy of the concept of homosexuality entirely.
2. There are few social benefits to 'choosing' to be gay, so it doesn't make logical sense that so many people would choose it.

I agree but it isn't ridiculous to ask the question when there are still a huge chunk of people who feel it is a choice.

Hence my question: if one feels it is a choice, fine. Keep it to yourself and think that. But why do some then go on to feel they have a right to impose that personal assessment on everybody else in the world? Through laws?

There's a huge chunk of people who think Obama is the Antichrist too, should we be discussing that as well?

Probably. 21% is the number you were looking for on that. Don't get me started on religious nuts.

If I'm straight but sleep with a lesbian, what does that make me? (Other than THE MAN!!) ;)

The type who compensates for his 5' 2'' height by cruising lesbian bars for girls to bang in order to increase your street cred?

Someone who wants to cause all women to have low self-esteem issues, not just heterosexual women? :p

I agree with what you originally posted but I disagree with this, especially in women. Let's be honest, if you were a woman would you be physically attracted to a man? I sure wouldn't, most men are gross. Women are far more beautiful. That being said, there is the innate need in most women to reproduce, which obviously requires a man, therefore causing the conundrum of need versus want.

Big Brown is obviously gay.

Danzig 03-31-2010 05:57 PM

i got into an argument (probably a waste of time on my part) with a woman i used to work with, who said 'god wouldn't make gay people'. so she said they must choose to be so.

Obviously people can hook up with both sexes, I'm simply saying you are one or the other, there is no 50/50 split nonsense. It's made up.

Gaelic Storm 03-31-2010 06:25 PM

I asked my wife her opinion on this and she said you are born straight or gay and the people that go both ways are just really horny.

GBBob 03-31-2010 06:51 PM

This thread is gay..

and I mean delightful

So.....there are hundreds of thousands of people in the world who claim to be bisexual....argue that they find both men and women attractive....and actually engage in sexual experiences with both men and women.
Are you really saying that these people are either gay or straight, and despite what they think they feel, they absolutely must fall into one of two categories of rigidly defined sexual orientation.

That is absurd.

Well I know there's one DT'er he's always "happy to see," so you may be onto something.
