Americans are so spoiled and so lucky to be born in this country.

mabye that's why we expect things to be done correctly by companies that affect the public, and why we expect to have elected officials that have the public interest at heart. .....rather than what we have....

Try to spend one day without using any of the benefits we get from our government.

the benefits were here long before this current Congress

government doesn't give us benefits, its takes our wealth and redistributes it.

try spending just one day in the private sector without sending a wad of cash to our government.

all of which we pay for. it's not as tho it's some charitable deity living on a mountain, bestowing it's largesse. lol gimme a break. the govt makes no profit, produces no goods-it feeds off it's citizens hard work.

I thought "freedom of choice" was a hallmark of of Liberal thinking. What if someone "chooses" to not buy an insurance policy? I don't feel sorry for someone who chooses not to get insurance when it is offered at a reasonable price then sings the blues when they have a health problem and try to get insurance to pay their medical bills only to be turned down for a "pre-existing condition". Forcing young heathy people to buy in would help foot the bill for others (the whole premise for insurance to work, and part of the premise of Obamacare). It would be better accomplished without the Govt. mandating what coverage you should have, and allowing companies to offer different detailed plans from a list of different options for people to choose from. Some could be basic skeleton plans and some could be caddy plans like the ones enjoyed by union members and Govt. employees. We (the taxpayer) should pay for NO insurance for members of Congress.

They do have a way to pay for it. Drill for oil off-shore. That would help not only their situation, but that of America. Or they can suck it out of the rest of us in Federal bailouts, without any regard to the fact that they have no one to blame except their own failed Progressive policies that are also this administrations vision for America.

If the house passes the Senate Bill there is no need for "reconciliation". It goes straight to Obama for his lefty signature. Do you understand how this all works? That is why the fight in the house is so crucial. If they make CHANGES to the bill, it goes back to the Senate for a new vote. Then and only then does "reconciliation" rear it's ugly head.

President Obama may wind up just signing the Senate bill into law no changes whatsoever -- preserving some of the most egregious elements that made the Senate bill such a public lightning rod.

These include not just the "Cornhusker Kickback," "Louisiana Purchase" and other special-interest deals rolled into the Senate bill last December to buy wavering Democratic votes. Democrats also would have to explain all over again why 800,000 seniors in Florida will be spared Medicare Advantage cuts, while those elsewhere won't.


Meanwhile, President Obama met with 20 undecided House Democrats yesterday in private. He urged them to put aside their political concerns and vote for the Senate bill in the interests of duty and country. "It's always a bad sign when a chief executive tells members of Congress of his own party to ignore the politics," says presidential historian Al Felzenberg. "It usually means he's got a bad product."

Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he's obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

“Scott Matheson is a distinguished candidate for the Tenth Circuit court,” President Obama said. “Both his legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering. I am honored to nominate this lifelong Utahn to the federal bench.”

Scott M. Matheson currently holds the Hugh B. Brown Presidential Endowed Chair at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, University of Utah, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1985. He served as Dean of the Law School from 1998 to 2006. He also taught First Amendment Law at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government from 1989 to 1990.

While on public service leave from the University of Utah from 1993 to 1997, Matheson served as United States Attorney for the District of Utah. In 2007, he was appointed by Governor Jon Huntsman to chair the Utah Mine Safety Commission. He also worked as a Deputy County Attorney for Salt Lake County from 1988 to 1989. Prior to joining the University faculty, Matheson was an associate attorney from 1981 to 1985 at Williams & Connolly LLP in Washington, D.C.

Matheson was born and raised in Utah and is a sixth generation Utahn. He received an A.B. from Stanford University in 1975, an M.A. from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1980.

So, Scott Matheson appears to have the credentials to be a judge, but was his nomination used to buy off his brother's vote?



Consider Congressman Matheson's record on the health care bill. He voted against the bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee back in July and again when it passed the House in November. But now he's "undecided" on ramming the bill through Congress. "The Congressman is looking for development of bipartisan consensus," Matheson's press secretary Alyson Heyrend wrote to THE WEEKLY STANDARD on February 22. "It’s too early to know if that will occur." Asked if one could infer that if no Republican votes in favor of the bill (i.e. if a bipartisan consensus is not reached) then Rep. Matheson would vote no, Heyrend replied: "I would not infer anything. I’d wait to see what develops, starting with the health care summit on Thursday."

The timing of this nomination looks suspicious, especially in light of Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak's claim that he was offered a federal job not to run against Arlen Specter in the Pennsylvania primary. Many speculated that Sestak, a former admiral, was offered the Secretary of the Navy job.

Hardly. The comment was in regards to some people on this list who repeatedly, broadly and stupidly paint all government with the same broad brush of their ignorance.

Some are apparently to dense to realize that their ability to sit on an internet list and spout off, complaining about our government in broad, general first-grade terms while completely ignoring - or being ignorant of - the thousands of other ways our government has made life in this country better - is the sanctimonious crap.

It's just more, "Keep your government hands off my Medicare" - type true ignorance.

Someone thinks the FDA is worthless or useless? Go ahead. Abolish it as Arl Jim would love to see, and see what happens to your safety and lifestyle. FCC? Same thing. Agriculture? The Federal Court system?
