Yep, thats my play next year. Hard enough capping the Derby on teh day of, no sense in even looking at it three months out. Of the original 23 horses offered in the first pool, more than half didnt make the Derby, and I think that is a high statistic from past years.

2006 - Total Offered in Pool 1 (23) - Made Derby (11) - 47.8 %
2005 - (23) - (11) - 47.8 %
2004 - (23) - (9) - 39.1 %
2003 - (23) - (7) - 30.4 %
2002 - (23) - (5) - 21.7 %
2001 - (23) - (8) - 34.7 %
2000 - (23) - (10) - 43.4 %

Total - (161) - (61) - 37.8 %

So, your horse from Pool 1 has just more than a 1/3 chance of actually running in the Derby. And with that, I'm done betting Derby Futures ;) ...

That damn horse that won the Haskell today cost me about $8-$10K in trifecta bets as I had barbaro keyed over both Jazil and Steppenwolfer

... and I can confirm GPK was high on Barbaro-- I had a big Derby party and he sent an email that I printed and left out for the guests that read, "PS: Barbaro wins the Derby."

I loved Lawyer Ron. Yeah, I know.

Discreet Cat if he would have gone in....As for the 20 entered, I thought Sweetnorthernsaint would win it based on the figs and the way he was training...still did financially well on the race though ;)

when I broke the race down
I really liked Barbaro to win
I was thinking Bluegrass Cat
would run well, and perhaps place
I had Steppenwolfer pegged for third
I couldn't make up my mind for 4th
it was between Brother Derek and Jazil

Jazil was my Derby horse.

Played Barbaro over Steppenwolfer, Jazil, Point Determined, and Sweetnorthernsaint. I should've just wheeled him. . .

I was at the derby and getting my ass handed to me all day and was down to my last $200 and took one look at Barbaro in the paddock and put all of the money on his head. The crowd went crazy trying to get to the loose money and I was arrested for public intoxication.
