He covered the 1 1/8 miles on the right-handed oval on Wednesday night in a pedestrian 1:55.17.

1:54.6 from the gate , and probably subtracting another second from the gate to the first furlong pole for an American equivalent.

1:54.6 or 1:53.6 is still fairly pedestrian, final quarter in a shade under 24.

That's slow as sumitas.

so drf's time they're giving is wrong?

1:55.17 or 1:54.6

I time it from when the gate opens and on the "beat" where the horses make their first move from a stand-still. From what i've heard about Kempton, they time the races from the instant the gate mechanism is triggered.
That could certainly account for about a half second. And the assumption is that DRF or Bloodhorse got their times from the source.

How Bloodhorse and DRF managed to two different times is more of a mystery.
