LOL I gave the FBI and SWAT an exception. they are the ones who should be finding those terrorists.

I really dont know if the regular Pigs use assault weapons to be honest. The probably dont. I just felt like talkin smack about the Po Po's.

yeah but the barking is what keeps the criminals away. Nobody wants to mess with a pack of pits!!

I have a boxer/bulldog mix. He's 65 pounds, black as night (nobody can see him in the dark or shadows)... with a HUGE head and a HUGE mouth with HUGE teeth!! He has the most vicious sounding growl.. sounds like a jackal from the Omen.

Unfortunatly he doesnt bark unless I give him a signal.. or he wants to play. And hes a huge baby... if someone tried to rob me he'd help them.
But if someone tried to hurt me he'd kill them.

He's intimidating enough that I wouldnt be afraid to walk in the hood alone with him by my side. (not that i'm afraid of doing that anyway)

I'm so sorry about the loss of your pet.

Shepherds are great guard dogs also. & rotties, dalmations, mastiff's (all big dogs with strong jaws!)

Nobody should have them but the military.

And fucl< the police!!! They cant even use tasers correctly... dont give them assault weapons!! In a lot of European countries cops dont even carry GUNS at all!!

FBI and SWAT are different.

i don't know why folks look at a gun and put it in either column a-hunting, or column b-killing humans. believe it or not, there are people who own and shoot guns for fun only. no ulterior motives. they go to the range, and shoot up targets. they enjoy collecting different weapons, and they go shoot targets with it. you know, kind of like guys who own a monster truck with tires 6 feet tall. they don't crush cars with it, didn't buy it for the mileage-but they got it because they wanted it.

you and one other are the only two to guess... and he got it right. it doesn't seem anyone else really wants to think about all that-or maybe my post was too long. a lot of folks want to suppose there are old west style gunfights going on in big cities every day, which if far from the truth. but, shootings get the headlines, so the perception is that it's a huge problem-when in fact, most folks have more to fear from the family dog than they do from a crook with a gun.

my dad cannot stand cop shows, he says they're all completely unrealistic. and bodies flying backwards from a shot from a .38, patently false.

While realizing that what is posted in this thread is not likely to change anyone's opinion on the issue of gun control and/or the right to bear arms.........I'd still like to ask a couple of rhetorical questions

If my pursuit of happiness does not infringe upon yours or anyone else's pursuit of happiness what business is it of yours??

If a ban of semi-automatic weapons is "necessary for the good of society" then why not ban V8 engines....why not ban sports cars....why not ban alcohol... why not ban tobacco...while we are at it, maybe we better ban prescription pain killers... how about all forms of gambling... do we really need gay sex?

Arguing what should or should not be legal based upon what is strictly necessary for the good of society may well be a slippery slope...

Banning anything that can be linked to criminal activity can also be a pretty slippery slope...

Perhaps the concepts of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" & "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", are not entirely bad concepts...

No. It IS a logical argument. I'm not a member of the NRA, yet. I don't own an assault weapon, yet. I don't even own a hand gun, yet. I'm more concerned about my neighbor's 2 pit bulls running loose through my yard than his assault weapon. Danzig hit it on the head. It' about personal freedom. By the way I would have guessed 0 for your dad, but I've been away. I have a shotgun that may qualify as an assault weapon to people who know little or nothing about guns, such as politicians and anti-gun crusaders.

This always gets me...Are you for smoking in public places, no seat belt laws and open intoxicants in cars?

When "personal freedoms" become a threat or expense to me, then they are no longer that....and what the NRA wants qualifies as that, to me.

And yes....your shotgun is not an assault weapon. But would you own one if given the opportunity?

Payson Dave 02-21-2009 03:13 PM

smoking in public places can affect others... drinking and driving can affect others.... law abiding citizens with no criminal background possessing a semi-automatic weapon does not affect others

Dave...until you shoot a round through your walls and kill me.

Or until I cut you off in traffic and you blow me away.

Why are semi automatics (and I know what they are) in the hands of anyone beside police and military?
