I dunno, I don't think McGwire gets in. People are still bitter about him breaking Maris' record and his buffoonery on the hill. I think the other three will get in though, and if you think this keeps A-Rod out of the HOF you're kidding yourself.

I just think it's all stupid. Judge them on their numbers since there was no testing at the time and move on. I mean, Rickey Henderson just got in with no questions asked. The same Rickey Henderson that hit .241 at 37, .248 at 38, and .236 at 39 before moving to the Mets, whose entire clubhouse at the time was apparently dealing steroids, at which point he hits .315 as a 40 year old. I have no clue if he was using or not but would it really shock anyone? And if so, cause the guy tried to lengthen his career should that really tarnish everything he accomplished up until then?

I'd say one year of fishy batting average is a little different than a guy obliterating the celebrated single-season home run record while looking like a freaking veiny blimp.

McGwire publicly admitted to using Andro during the home run chase and noone cared! Now he's the antichrist for using it.

No one knew what the hell Andro was, and if I remember correclty, he made it sound like it was some vitamin supplement.

Anyway, I think that it's hypocritical for writers not to vote someone in when they weren't writing about steroids during the late '90s/early 00s. I'm just saying I think McGwire gets left out because he shattered the sacred record and wimped out of saying anything on the hill.

Maybe I'm overestimating what the public knew since I was playing college football at the time so juicing wasn't exactly a foreign concept. Even in high school football it was common knowledge which prominent players around the section were juicing. I just find it funny how naive everyone is pretending they were back then (like they couldn't interview a doctor about andro) and how outraged they all are now when the evidence was all right before their eyes. I remember my friend jokingly emailing me in the spring of '99 to take Jeter high in my fantasy baseball draft cause his head had blown up over the offseason. Sure enough his slugging percentage jumped 70 points higher than it has ever been at any other point in his career and after the year he signs a 10 year, $200 million deal and get off the juice. I can't say I blame him, or any of these guys in the least. There was just too much money to be made to allow other guys to get a competitive advantage. I blame the game for allowing that to happen.

Lets get something straight... I HATE A-Rod. But I at least give him credit for stepping up and admitting the use... even if it was 3-4 years too late. I'm tired of the guys that are saying "I didn't do it" even though we all know they did. If you did, OK fine, everybody did for the reasons Sniper listed above, just admit it. Don't do the Barry Bonds and claim like you didn't know.

I would LOVE to see Jeter on that list (although he won't be from '03, like you said, just '99.)

I agree with this the most. I'm sick of hearing about steroids in baseball. They didn't test even though MLB knew what what was going on. Steroids are just a huge part of this era of the sport. They should just assume everybody was on them and just move forward and prevent future use. The home run #'s are inflated but the pitchers were juicing too. The press should just let it go.

Oh really? They were hitting 60-70 home runs, and you don't think pitchers(overall) were hurt professionally? They got their money. They got their awards etc. I'f they didn't perjure themself, then they will get away with it. Fine, but I think the price they need to pay is the Hall of Fame.

Yeah, I watched it, pretty funny. He said way more than he needed to yet still felt the need to lie through his teeth and contradict himself everytime the question got too specific. I guess he's worried about legal action from admitting that some bodybuilder was shooting him up which is a shame cause I think we'd all like the truth more than a bunch of BS about GNC.
