(I'm talking to myself here, I swear)... :D

With Sufficient out, I've narrowed it down to 5. :p

Juice
Easy Ryder
Down the Road
Tell a Tale
I Robot

_ed_ 02-27-2009 04:11 PM

Those 5 make sense.

Yeah, postponed 24 hours. And I work Sundays so I can't go. :( I only started this job last week, wouldn't look good if I had a sick day!

I've been to every Derby since my first one in 1992. :(

Actually my amazing boss let me work today, so I'm going to be at my 16th Derby tomorrow. :)

The weather's improved a lot, it should be fine tomorrow. The track will still be wet, though. Probably in the Slow range. The Derby time will probably be in the low 2:30s.

NoChanceToDance 02-28-2009 12:13 PM

Been bad weather over there, Ed?

I have two friends in NZ at the moment one of whom was meant to go to the Derby.

Yeah, really bad luck. It was fine all week and then an insanely bad storm came over us on Friday night. They were expecting it to get even worse and last all day yesterday - the prospect of that was the main reason for the postponement, rather than the damage done overnight.

Luckily it turned out not being so bad after all. And it's beautiful today, the track is officially Slow but I wouldn't be surprised if there was an upgrade.

I keep thinking Diamond Glitter isn't that bad... or am I crazy? :D

If i were playing it (and I'm not), I think I might use Juice, Easy Ryder and Tell a Tale over Down the Road and I Robot but toss DG in too.

Oh hell I don't know... just make sure you let us know what it was like, how the most Xcellent one looked and how much fun you had ed!!!

my miss storm cat 03-01-2009 12:02 AM

Coniston Bluebird? Really?

_ed_ 03-01-2009 12:36 AM

Really. :(

Replay: http://www.ellerslie.co.nz/show.cfm?...wf&w=294&h=240

I wouldn't mind if it was one of the top Australian horses, but he isn't. He looked average over there. Really disappointing and embarrassing. I thought this was a good crop of 3yos, but it's obviously not.

You sound about as thrilled as I was when Giacomo won the Kentucky Derby.....

So Down the Road 2nd, Tell a Tale 3rd and Juice dead heats for 4th? (Can't watch the replay yet but I will!). Oh and what happened after.... he tossed his jock?

I can understand that you're disappointed but still... it's a good crop... so many nice horses over there. I hope you had fun anyway and had some winners.

Scurlogue Champ 03-01-2009 02:47 PM

I can't believe that horse won.

Yeah. They were going up to him with the rug and he didn't like the look of it so reared up and tipped off the jockey, who landed awkwardly and it sounds like he broke his ankle.

_ed_ 03-06-2009 10:53 PM

I'm seeing a pattern...

NZ Derby winners:

2001: Leica Guv
2003: Cut The Cake
2005: No race (they moved it from December to March)
2007: Redoute's Dancer
2009: Coniston Bluebird

I don't rate any of these horses as worthy Derby winners. None of them did much after winning this race (too early to say that for CB, but I don't have high hopes).

2000: Hail
2002: St Reims :)
2004: Xcellent :D
2006: Wahid :)
2008: C'est La Guerre :)

All really good horses.

2010 should be good.

The eagle has landed!

He arrived in HK around the 15th along with...

Red Line
Zivalee
Tsonga
Zorro's Lad
Rhone Delta
He's Licarocket
Kabalevsky
and Kiss Me Tonite

_ed_ 06-29-2009 08:31 PM

Down The Road and He's Licarocket are the best of those I think.

Kiss Me Tonite sounds familiar but moronically I don't know the others!

Tell me about Licarocket if you can. :)

my miss storm cat 06-29-2009 09:56 PM

Oh yeah forgot... Down the Road is keeping his name. :)

_ed_ 06-30-2009 07:55 AM

That's good news.

He's Licarocket won his first start really impressively (beating Lady Alberton, who won a G3 a couple of weeks later). He's been maybe a bit disappointing since then, but he had 2 wins in his 9 races here and finished in the first 5 8 times.

Hopefully he'll like his new home and show the ability we saw in his first race here.

my miss storm cat 06-30-2009 09:26 AM

Hope so!
