Try to be brief here.....I have voted for both parties in the past, usually I look at the individual rather than the party. I am far left of either one so I have to take their positions on issues in context. If I'm still around in four years, I will look at where the country is and decide whether Obama is the person I think he is...if so, I doubt I'd give any other candidate much consideration. Palin is way too conservative for me...I have nothing against her as a person, in fact I respect her but it's hard for me to see how I could reconcile voting for her. Four years is a long time, especially in a world where everything can change in a "New York minute"....I'll get back to you then!

no

why not? i'd imagine she'd be as far right in four years, and as convinced that everything is gods will, and that we if just put prayer back in school (and hey, with enough prayer everyone would be straight. ) then god would bless this country again.
oh, and you should read all the above in the tina fey as palin voice, it works better that way.

If she becomes less crazy with her social views and more intelligent about foreign policy I'd vote for her.

but that is a IF that will probably not happen

maybe by then she'd know that africa was a continent.

The ultra conservatives cannot elect a President, and thankfully that is the only faction that find her appealing.

But of course she will never figure that out and try and run, but will never get the nod.
As for competition well Bobby Jindal is very well liked in the Republican party. He was extremely high on the list for VP and word is he got it from McCain but turned it down...smart move by Jindal.

He's got the background, Brown and Oxford university education, Asst. Sec. of DHH, US congressman, and now Governor in state that has massive problems and looks like he is capable of turning it around. While he is absolutely a party man he also very much appeals to independents and moderate Dems. There is alot of talk that he will make a run in 2012, and the republican party is courting him for a run. He will easily be re-elected as Governor and it will all depend on if he wishes to complete his term. He is a young man, very good orator that establishes trust, very nice family, even delivered his own baby when his wife went into sudden and quick labor...good story for those that like the heartwarming stories. So for those disheartened republicans keep on eye on our Governor.

as i said the other day, i think she's comparable to dan quayle, and has as much chance as him of ever being president.

Problem is she is a liar, and she is way too extreme to lead anything other than a very Conservative state. She could get better on foreign affairs etc., but her core beliefs limit her. This lady is hilarious, and I am gunna especially miss hearing the odd way she emphasizes the least important word in a phrase(like the word "to.")

hell, bidens a liar. and he's soon to be vp, that in itself doesn't exclude a pol. if it did, the halls of congress would echo.

I think some of the problems in both Dem and Repub parties is the extreme philosphies, middle america is getting lost.
For instance I can wholeheartedly believe in my right to bear arms, and I have closet full of guns and pistols, I LEGALLY carry a concealed weapon yet I can also believe in gun reform. You shouldn't be able to go to a gun show and buy an assualt weapon on the spot. If you want AR's and other assualt weaponery as a collector than get a license, get checked out and then buy the AR's. However that is not acceptable by most of the people I know that are for the right to bear arms. I am giving away my right to bear arms by even allowing for the thought of gun reform.

As for precluding me from voting in primaries, generally I wouldn't anyway, but it is strange down here in primaries, I'm not from here. But it could preclude me from voting for the candidate I like and force me to vote for the parties candidate. Actually one of the primaries here was very strange only non-party registered were allowed to vote, I have to look into that further as I didn't know that was the law.

I'm with you on the gun reform as you stated it.....in California you could only vote for a candidate if you were in that party,I believe(there has been some changes though)

herkhorse 11-07-2008 06:48 PM

I would never vote for someone that believes in fossil fuels but not fossils.

He ain't a liar like her. She lied every day of that last week. Said people making 150k, and 120k were gunna get their taxes raised. Both her n' McCain lied about Obama's tax plan(over n' over again.) It wasn't complicated. OBAMA was clear. They just went out n' lied every day.

no i would not, for follwoing reason:

her first impression has been horrible, she was not ready for the vp slot and was mishandled either by herself or by McCain camp. The gaffs, the misteps, the interviews, the clothing, on and on...Politics is brutal game, all of the above will be used against her no mattter when and if she plans to run for a higher office outside Alaska.

here are my personal favs:
Putin comment, Russia in the backyard.
Reads all newspapers and magazines.
Something about hockey mom, pitbull, and lipstick.
to all questions, have only talking point answeres: (average joe, joe the plummer, maverick, hockey mom, ...)

Danzig 11-07-2008 08:05 PM

regardless of frequency, they're still liars.

i read about palins 150k buying spree today. from what i read, mccain was pretty po'd about the whole whole deal--that they told her to buy 'a few suits'. 150k would buy a whole lotta suits!
supposedly bought wardrobes for the kiddies as well, jewelry, luggage, etc. talk about nice 'parting gifts'.

supposedly there was a recent trip by some rnc folks to get a tally. yeah, like anything will come of that.

Coach Pants 11-07-2008 08:09 PM

I watched the opening scene of Nailin Paylin last night.

I'd probably go on a spending spree too but....I don't see how I'd find enough things that would add up to 150k. That's just insane. I'd probably go to Sears and buy a couple of nice suits or something with the Republicans money and at most spend maybe $500.

dalakhani 11-07-2008 09:35 PM

I dont mean to sound all hoighty toighty and i certainly dont have that kind of money but believe me, if they gave me 150k to spend, I could easily spend it shopping in a week.

If I ever said anything bad about Palin for doing that, i take it back. I would have done the same damn thing.:p

Danzig 11-07-2008 09:46 PM

but i don't think they gave it to her. i think they told her to go buy some stuff, but the bill evidently wasn't what they expected.

country comes to town....

but if i was given 150k to spend, i wouldn't blow it on clothing. i'd buy some land.

I hear ya Z, but at the same time, you cant give a gal a credit card with no limit and still have ANY expectations. Remember, these were indeed small town people without the type of wardrobe necessary to appear in front of the whole world. On top of that, Palin is smart enough to know that it wasnt her brain that she would be out there selling (somehow that last sentence made sense. i know timmig got it).

My point is that they should have put the limits on her. Heck, they should have assigned her a personal shopper and image consultant and it probably would have saved them a ton. I just think its wrong of them to throw her under the bus for it after the fact when they never set any guidelines up.

if you're registered to a particular party you can only vote in that party's primary.

it's up to each party to decide whether they let someone like me who registered "decline to state" to vote for candidates in their primary.

this year i could have voted democratic, libertarian, peace and freedom (didn't make that up), and green but not republican in the primary.

just one example of the extraordinary stupidity of california's republican leadership. they actually used the primary to train independents to vote democratic.

The Bid 11-07-2008 11:18 PM

If she were the Republican Nominee I would vote for her

I thought it was as you stated...thanks for clarifying. Good logic there;)

Seems to me that Sarah Palin has literally let her hair down since the election. Anyone else notice that she's looking less conservative?

As for Bobby Jindal, are the Republicans ready to nominate a person of "color"?
