Dutrow rips Contessa

http://www.drf.com/news/article/95884.html

You look at this jerk-off down there, [Gary] Contessa - how does he set records? How does he do it? C'mon, man, if everything is the same playing field, we're going to do as good if not better than anybody."

AND they're off...the fighting will now commence :zz: Should be a fun day on the backstretch at the Big A from now on!

Towards the end of last years Belmont spring meeting Dutrow was interviewed on the prerace show. Dutrow was asked about winning the trainers title for the meet and he said that's not important to me unlike another clown. He was referring to Gary Contessa. I think Contessa angers Dutrow by claiming so many horses from him.

There goes they July 4th Big A backstretch picnic! It will be dueling trainers....Dutrow with needles and syringes and Contessa with cheesesteak sandwiches going at it!

Welcome to the spotlight Mr. Dutrow. You obviously aren't smart enough to handle it if the best you can do is throw out other names in an attempt to excuse yourself by dragging down others and justify that two wrongs do make a right in your world.

He's got a point, if you are a trainer today and you don't atleast level the playing field, you are most likely to be soon to become an unemployed trainer. The problem is not with individual trainers, the problem comes from the decision makers that legislate the game to the Owners down.

From a PR standpoint, now that IEAH has been publicly embarrased by this episode, they should discuss with Dutrow the possibility of placing a 2nd in command at Ricks barn to monitor, assist or whatever you want to call it...a person to start to correct the wrongs in his barn.

This person could computerize all the workouts of all his stables, MONITOR and RECORD all medications being dispensed by the vets, making sure they comply to all state legislation's, do payroll, order barn supplies, horse transportation ect. Let Rick deal with all the ON TRACK issues of training and equine health care.

It seems from reading reports that many of his issues being fined both big and small are administrative issues that a good 2nd in command would do. Does a big time trainer like Pletcher or Kiran really worry himself about the silks of owners being in the jockey room pre race? Or "failure to have foal papers on file". Yes other trainers in other barns get it done correctly, but obviously Rick needs assistance in the administrative area. IMO it seems like Rick, like him or not, for better or worse, tries to handle EVERYTHING in his barn and it's way too much for one person to do. I'm sure when he started out, he was a one man operation with few horses and he could control these issues. But as his operations have multiplied and success has bred a national presence in racing with horses being run at multiple tracks on the same day, administrative stuff also gets multiplied and he has not kept up, still trying to run it all by himself and maybe one female asst trainer. And I'm sure time management of administrative tasks is not one of his favorite tasks daily either.

Drug issues aside, both personal and equine, he would be, as would IEAH if they stay with him, let his operation become more business orientated and improve his operations. I wonder how many assistants Pletcher or Kiran have at their main barns to handle all these side, but important, daily tasks of training. What would it take 50-75 grand to manage his operation for him? That's only one trainer purse of a grade 1 a year to break even on this idea.

The arguement is retarded. The only record Dutrow could be referring to is the most wins in a calendar year which Contessa set last year because he starts 3 times as many races as anyone else up there. To date per DRF he's started 660, over 95% of which have been solely in NY and predominantly NY breds.....Dutrow is about half of that with much classier open company stock... For Belmont, Contessa is an 8% trainer for the meet - hardly cheating stats, but whatever....It's crystal clear who the real jerkoff is in this battle.

As Contessa retorted, " I'm still waiting for him to say something intelligent"

We are all too aware of how much the mainstream media will think nothing of putting a story up on the internet, television, or the papers w/o following thru on the facts.
All for the sake of being the 1st to break a story ?

When I saw this thread yesterday, I admit I was annoyed "media-member" type behavior had spread to this forum as well. I could be wrong but that's how I interpretted it. Maybe it's nothing new, because I'm not here as often as most of us, but I haven't picked up on it until now. Yeah it's unfortunate I don't know anyone here. But the idea I put my first response to the thread as an attempt to show how clever I am, I promise would sound absurd to anyone who knows me at all.

I will address Thoroughbred Fan immediately.

Fair enough.. I understood the zeal of the thread start to bring a hot story forward, but the first response to it, within minutes, was a correction that the rumor was in fact false. It's not as if a debate raged for a day over idle speculation or mistaken innuendo.

I probably over-reacted to your jibe at TBFan too, but I do my best to minimize and eliminate posts and exchanges that I think people would prefer to take back or are in the process of creating conflagrations.

No harm done all around...

Big win today for Rick and IEAH...now just keep your nose clean! :zz:
