PETA is going to have a field day with this. Especially if he's retired. This time, I really can't say that I'll blame them.

ArlJim78 06-07-2008 07:06 PM

why is it either/or? either you have a triple crown winner or else you have disapointment and a dying game? i don't get it.

the triple crown is on the line for only one day per year. how does having a triple crown winner keep casual fans excited AFTER the Belmont?

Why? Because he ran poorly? Hell if that was the case they would be shelling my house as bad as the last few i have ran have finished. Because his feelings are hurt?

King Glorious 06-07-2008 07:09 PM

I loved how Bailey and Moss said they like Dutrow and his attitude. Muhammad Ali was mentioned and the way he would talk trash, tell you which round he'd beat you in and tell you how ugly you were. Joe Namath is known today for one thing and that's guaranteeing the SB win. Jordan used to say that when he's on his game, nobody could stop him. Talking trash is part of sports. If you don't like what someone is saying or doing, beat them. That's the best way to shut them up. Not crying about it cause they've beaten you.

If he ran poorly as a result of any physical distress, they will be all over it. They openly questioned whether he should be running when the quarter crack issues came up and now this? They will absolutely tie this together, whether they actually tie together or not.

I never understood the reason that casual fans matter much anyway? That is why they are casual.

Like it or not 98% of racing exists because people like me race horses and people like you guys bet on them. The big events are nice but singular events that dont really have much bearing on the sport or business in general.

If you used baseball as a parallel, it would be like me going to more Louisville Bats games if Arod hits for the Triple Crown. Are more people going to show up next thursday if big brown wins?

Trash talking at one opponent is far diff. than dissing an entire field.
That is trash talking to the 3rd power. And that is stupid. Not a good comparison. In horse racing success is a very fickle, fleeting moment. Dutrow apparently enjoys the highs and lows.
People have to have a strong constitution and a little humility to
endure highs and lows. So I will give dutrow the strong constitution part.

Now watch Dutrow have a complete mental breakdown.

Yea ,you are probably right considering the weak group he defeated in the first two legs.

CAnnon,

A couple of years ago we bought a 2yo at sales and sent him to Billy Turner's barn. He of course was juiced up on roids from the presale period and Billy told me he wouldn't and couldn't race him for awhile as the withdrawal period made the colt and not easily trainable.

ANY chance that's what went wrong today? Running a horse on withdrawal from juice?

Unless they are betting nothing they say has any validity. If I bet on BB I may be pissed (even i wasnt dumb enough to do that)

They also want to bring Larry Jones up on charges...only a simpleton would give them any creditability. You know some people think Hitler did some good things too...

I don't give them any credibility at all. But it's interesting that you bring up Hitler. On the flip side of that, not every organization that is as stupid as they are, is wrong all the time.

No. If Dutrow was giving a once a month dosage there is no withdrawl and absolutely no effect either way. There is almost certainly an abcess in his foot or a stress fracture somewhere. The steroids thing is totally overblown.

By saying that they have a valid argument, you are giving them a credtability. Anybody can make idiotic statements in public and gloat once in a while that they are right. That doesnt make them smart or creditabile. As a matter of fact that happens here on a daily basis.

Is that because the dispensed amount each month is smaller than they give the presale horses?

Cannon Shell 06-07-2008 07:25 PM

Horses dont break down from quartercracks. There very well be an abcess underneath there causing him some discomfort but unless you have xray vision or a crystal ball you just dont know. Most of you have no understanding exactly how hard it is to train horses. It is the reason that some of us 'wonder' about the guys that seemingly make it look easy.
