Sensitive. Could be many things, but I've been fired up about this since it happened. Almost got booted out of a family Labor Day picnic two years ago when this happened. The arrogance of the mayor and the absolute stupidity of the Governor for starters. The looting, rape, rioting, etc. don't sit well with me either. Not to mention the stupidity of many of the residents who could've gotten out an didn't. I'm sure there were many hardworking residents who suffered catostrophic losses and I do feel for them. Of course I'm sure many people think I'm just being racist. That's not the case. I'd feel the same way if it was a city of whites, greens, yellows, etc. |

Thank you for re-reading my original post. I saw that after I posted to your post. Anyway, I absolutely agree with you about the handouts, it's the same people that got them before bitching about getting them now. Funny thing is while us and many of our friends were in disasters areas 1. most of us didn't need help because we were prepared, and 2. we don't live off the system so we dont know how to get it, seriously we are really dumb about it. I have no sympathy for the people screaming for the housing projects. ( then again if they opened them back up we would know where the crime is, now it's just all over the city) But like I said 1.5 milion people evacuated, hard working people who paid dearly for insurance only to get screwed. One man raised his house 20 ft. out of pocket and because FEMA had not made the flood maps yet, he will not be reimbursed. So many have moved over here to my little 6 red light town we now have traffic jams, I am in the country. It all happened so fast you can't keep up with roads, and infrastructure. it's all crazy here, every day. The talking heads keep talking, the hard working folks just keep working and we send money to Baghdad everyday. AND do not get me wrong, I certainly support our troops, not the war in the wrong country. Katrina/Rita and now all this flooding in the midwest is a wake up call that we really need to take care of our own, especially the hard working people that just keep plugging along. The nursing home is an absolute disgrace..I hope those people rot in hell for leaving those old people there. And the animals, I responded as a vet tech. another disgrace. It is hard to judge when you don't live here and even harder when you do. I will never understand how this all happened in my beloved country. |

And don't believe all you see on CNN or any other media. Parts of the city are coming back. You should plan a trip to THE Fairgrounds when sumwon is here.:) |

This thread made me get a cold one. Got to stay off these political threads. How are the tigers doing? |
LSU is shutting the Bulldogs out so far 24-0. They've still got 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Yes The Fairgounds does provide thrilling races, Especially the stretch. And we have a great jockey colony, good horses and barns, lots of colorful characters and a ball at the Paddock bar. BTW the French Quarters has a new waste managament team they even spray the streets with perfume now so it's cleaner and smells prettier. But it still is a bawdy laissez la faire town. |
I have tried real hard to play nice on this one because it is a sensitive subject and I do kinda understand where everyone is coming from. The bottom line is race, income level, crime rate, education level, religion, or anything that has to do with the makeup of the city of New Orleans should not be in question period! The only thing that should be in question here is how did this happen in our country?!?
So you get a blizzard (yes I saw the pictures) and let's say it destroys your town. You have no food, no money, no home, and no one is coming to help you, then you are told "oh I know it's where your home is, but you know what, we think you would be better off on a cot in a gym somewhere in Idaho. Oh and don't worry about your things, they're gone, you don't have the blizzard insurance, so you aren't going to get anything for your years of labor, and we really don't know what happened to the rest of your family and neighbors, but hey, good luck to you." The inconvenience of the winter snows and associated power outages doesn't come close to what those people went through. I lived on the Gulf Coast and went through a pretty significant Hurricane (Elena) and just not having power, water, gas, etc for those 2 weeks was horrible. But again it all comes back to the fact that when a community in our country was in dire need of help, the people that were elected to provide that help were not there to answer the call. |
