I dont hate gays at all

I think its mental abuse for a child to grow up in a gay family, with two dads. Its hard enough being a child without trying to figure out your sexual orientation, or explain stuff to kids at school

I like gays, what not to wear, and sheer genius are two of my favorite tv shows

Again, kids have to learn to hate...most have little difficulty accepting UNTIL their parents and other adults poison their minds. Your sexual orientation is your sexual orientation...if a child is "straight" he will grow up that way regardless of who his parents are, a "straight" child raised by gay parents will have no more difficulty with his/her identity than any other...in fact, he/she is likely to have a better understanding. The "some of my best friends are..." smokescreen never works, your earlier posts have given you away...you are a hate-filled bigot if those posts are actually how you feel (obviously on the net a person can pretend...like Repent use to do).

That is the most idiotic, stupid, ignorant comment i have ever heard.

a 1,000,000,000,000,000 times more idiotic than anything PG1985 ever said.

that's a Zillion!

I've heard gays and non-gays use the "F" word, blacks and non-blacks use the "N" word, etc.... I don't use that kind of language and we wouldn't tolerate it in our home from our kids or from guests whether they be gay, black or whatever.

I could care less what people do in private or, for that matter, in public. I might not care for it, I might think it's funny and laugh, whatever.

Personally, I don't care all that much for 'special language' hate crime legislation. It seems like laws that apply to everyone should be enough. Frankly, I credit/blame lobbyists and other lawyers for the legislation.

I don't think you can legislate tolerance and decency.

I couldn't agree more.

Andrew Sullivan says it best. It's disgusting, and there is no argument for opposing it outside of simply disliking, or hating gays.

I don't agree with Sullivan, though he may be right.

I think the real reason is the same reason that I found my tongue on the floor the other night as the Repub candidates (save Rudy G.) lined up like trained pigs to state they were in favor of overturning Roe v Wade. I expected at least a few of them to give a little more insight as to why they would support overturning a pretty important law but the short, straight "Yes" response was obviously directed at the Christian far-right.

The same applies to Bush here. It's a shame the Republicans have degenerated into what they've become. It's fairly stunning how quickly they have been able to start chipping away at Roe. Really, how the heck could you expect Bush to do anything different?

lol. thanks Tim. :D

Just to reiterate, in case anyone is viewing me as someone who really really LOVES hate-crime legislation. I think it's necessary to a point, but let me be totally totally clear -- I am way less mad about the fact that homosexuals are not going to be covered by hate-crime legislation than I am about the fact that homosexuals are not going to be covered at the very same time that all these other groups are, and that someone from a protected class is going to be the one to make sure it doesn't happen.

Hopefully this thread has not been considered as me shoving my sexuality down anyone's throat, lest I get my skull cracked in at the grocery store an hour from now because I deserve it.

I think abortion is a far different issue than treating all people with respect...I'm about as far to the left as anyone here, a proud feminist and yet I oppose abortion...that is a very difficult issue for many folks!

timmgirvan 05-04-2007 04:00 PM

The "Violent Crimes Act of 1994" pretty much covers protections to any group! I really don't see that we need another Bill....We could just enforce the ones already on the books!

Danzig 05-04-2007 07:20 PM

i don't really agree with hate crime laws. in my mind, all crimes are hate crimes. i don't know that someone should get less time for killing someone who wasn't a minority. that doesn't make sense. why a difference? murder is murder, assault is assault.
right?

TRUST MEEEEEE, when I say that I did too. I think the discussion (outside of the outrageous gay-hating comments) hinged on whether hate-crime laws should exist or not, which was a good thing because I can see that argument as valid.

Gay-bashing victims as being at fault for being gay? Nope, still can't see that.

Once again, outside of making excuses for Ms. Leggsy Scarnato, you're the best Somer.
