I believe Angel Island and Appealing Zophie were jointly the two fastest fillies to win going 4.5 at KEE last year....

One of them would become a Grade 1 winner, the other hasn't raced since.

That filly will really have her hands full with the freaky Sea of Pleasure on Derby week---if the new owners intend to run there.

Badge of Silver was still running well in Grade 1 races at age 6 after winning a 4.5 furlong race at KEE by a pole.

He, however, came out of the race with a fractured leg, and would fracture it again later on in his career.

I think champion 2yo Answer Lively and Hollywood Futurity winner Tactical Cat ran against each other in the same race, in one of those 4.5f KEE races in '98.

I think City Zip might have come out of one of those races as well....but I'm not totally sure about that. There've been a few OK ones.

not that it's really relevant but he also had really crappy feet that he got from his mother Silveroo...and a tender footed horse is often more likely to hurt itself somewhere else...

Earlier than I was thinking of in the "last few years" but both are certainly qualified as good at 3 and beyond. Still the "current" era of racing.

Isn't there something physical that needs to happen to a horse (like their knees closing or something) that once it happens they are fine to run. For some 2yos it happens early and they are fine to race in February, for others it doesn't happen until later and it is a bad idea to run them that early. That was the impression I was under. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

Bethani would be able to go into much more detail but I don't think they break them until they knees are closed and I think most people radiograph them. Horses of other breeds don't mature as quickly.

I know warmbloods definitely take longer for their knees to close. Interesting question brought up, though. I often wondered if they made sure their knees were closed before breaking them.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing that you can't start jumping them until 5 or 6 but you can run a Thoroughbred at full speed at 2!

She failed to meet her reserve. Eaton bought her back for $300k. Here is whats saif about her conformation.

"While she is really fast, she has one wheel that the conformation is off a little bit," said Eaton Sales partner Tom Van Meter. "It was just tough to get her past the market.
