well at this point im definitly attached i think he is a great sire, but i ment i was standing by the fact that i cannot call saddlers wells the best sire in the world because he dosent produce on both surfaces....i can say the best in ireland, or europe, but not in the world

I will bet you that Giants Causeway has zero grade 1 winners on the dirt this year.

This is really a laughable argument. Go to Coolmores web site and check out the top 20 for Sadlers Wells. It is a nice list. He has produced 30% stakes placed runners with 18% stake winners. Unbelievable #'s. He is pretty old now and I dont believe that he covers many mares but if you are really interested in breeding you should learn as much as you can about stallions like this.

no listen your taking my argument the wrong way, i know saddlers wells and i have been looking at the website and everything, i realize how great he is, i will go read up on him some more, i guess i have phrased my argument the wrong way i guess i should say that giants causeway could be the best in the world, not that he is.

47 GC yearlings have been sold this year for an average of $55000. That is not the sign of a stallion that is going in the right direction, Shekh Mo's boycott or not.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-18-2007 11:23 PM

see i dont understand that the site says the number 1 freshman sire in the world, and there selling for that little ?

POINTGIVEN1985 03-18-2007 11:25 PM

giants causeway has sired 24 stakes winners, 15 of them graded stakes in a very short period of time, i dont understand how he can be going in that direction

POINTGIVEN1985 03-18-2007 11:32 PM

i think the name of that horse is giants promise, very very nice pedigree.... take a look its on the coolmore website, and im not saying this guy compares to any of saddlers wells grade 1 winners but this could be a very nice horse to watch down the road that not to many ppl know about

NO one can explain that...all they do is quote the yearling sales prices...

My opinion as I stated in a prior post is the first years' here, Coolmore bred GC to 191+ mares...or anyone who payed the 300k...bound to be duds. I think that GC is now private because Coolmore is being very selective after flooding the market with GC's progeny. As stated, the boycott by the sheik's has to hurt the numbers too.

Sadler's Wells has been at it a lot longer than GC, so that comparison is skewed.

Giant's Promise is not the horse you're talking about. . .

brockguy 03-19-2007 07:05 AM

as Chuck says, Sadlers still the best til he goes.. He mightnt have had many dirt performers but the sample hasnt been that big and he has produced horses who have sired dirt performers such as El prado and the likes..

Giant's will be a very succesful stallion but the next best could well be a shoot out between Montjeu and Galileo.. The former had a great start but he passed his quirkiness along to alot of his offspring, who seem a little headstrong. Galileo had Sixties Icon, Red Rocks etc last year and the most exciting horse on the planet at the moment (my view) Teofilo..

Hey Brock, do you know what the plans are for Teofilo? I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do this year..

brockguy 03-19-2007 07:25 AM

yeah, he'll start off without a prep (norm these days) for the 2000 Guineas.. If he wins that it'll be the Triple Crown route, so the Derby, the St.Leger.a big season is planned. The TC is rarely tried here and hasnt been done since Nijinsky in 1970
