When I was looking for information on Pappys Double H, who lost his life today in the last race at Belmont, I found this...
Pappy's Double H was named in honor of Charles R. Wood by his daughter Charlene. Charlie Wood was co-founder with Paul Newman of the Double H Ranch a Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for critically ill children. http://www.puckerridgeracing.com/pappysdoublehfund.htm Newman began pondering other ways to help these children. In 1986, he had an inspiration: why not build a place for kids who are too sick to go to ordinary camps? His name was Tom's Six although his original name was Manjar. He'd won 4 from 9 before coming to Hong Kong.
A seven year old gelding, his HK record was 1-2-3 from 31 starts. He was rated 82 and with the exception of 2 attempts at Class 1, ran in Class 2 races. Align To Infinity collapsed on the track at Ellerslie today. He was a lovely horse who looked like he was about to live up to the potential he had always showed.
It was good to see horses from his stable run 1st and 2nd (The Mooseisloose and Bounce) in the main race later in the day. |
