Is he really? I always thought he looked a lot like his pops. :)

Yes, they officially retired him this past year at Oaklawn. He is one of the neatest horses I have ever been around. I introduced Barbara Livingston to him a couple of years ago (that's where the photo came from) and she just fell in love with him.

Chestnut Gal 10-25-2006 08:02 PM

IMO a couple of beautiful names-
Fly to the Stars
Star Over the Bay ( I miss him)

A few funny names -

Turtle Soup
Cold Chicken

Horse names.....

If I were a trainer, or owner in my wildest dreams of course, I would want a a horse that made things look simple. Who with each stride they took in each race, (wishful thinking) looked as smooth as silk on the track. If, in my wildest dream I had such a horse, I couldn't think of a more fitting name than Easy Goer! Anybody with me, if you all had a horse, wouldn't you want one that just did it with ease :o)?
I for some reason like Horse Chestnut for a name as well, I can't say why lol.
2 other names which IMO project strength and winner are Bold Ruler, and Point Given. Great horses as well.

Too Drunk to Call, who only seems to run in the winter at Aqueduct, cracks me up.

There was a horse running at Keeneland last year named something like harderfasterlonger....I have no idea how that one got by!

Cunningham Racing 10-25-2006 08:55 PM

Shoot the Buglar...Beer Belly Bob...another two I liked

Linny 10-25-2006 08:55 PM

Linny was the stable name of my (late) great showhorse.

I like the name Still Guilty, by Successful Appeal x Oh Jay.

Dixie Normas is the name of a bar, I think it's in NOLA.

I love the horse, so don't miss my humor.

But I think "Lame Excuse" or "Safety Pin" would have been much better.

kentuckyrosesinmay 10-26-2006 01:47 PM

The gavel fell at $37,000 - Harry & Teresa Meyerhoff were now the owners of the steel grey yearling in the auction ring. They called their new colt Spectacular Bid, a name which would surely seem prophetic just a short year later.

Danzig 10-26-2006 06:57 PM

kelso

Thought I'd dig this thread up and share some funny names of horses that have raced around in this part of the world.

Maythehorsebewithu
Far Gone Beauty
Hoof Hearted :D
She Sells Sea Shells (unfair on the poor caller)

I know there are more but can't think of them at the moment.

letswastemoney 08-02-2007 03:06 AM

letswastemoney 08-02-2007 04:13 AM

Actually...I have never thought of a name more cool than Funny Cide.

I think if Funny Cide were named anything different, he would lose some of that appeal. When I imagine a "Funny Cide," I imagine a happy go lucky type of horse.

When I think of the name Empire Maker, all I think about is darkness....evil...and tyranny. I could never like Empire Maker because of his blue blood and because his name pounded that blue blood image in my head. I mean c'mon..."Empire" Maker??? How about something more friendly...like....Friendly Maker??

robfla 08-02-2007 05:18 AM

raced at GP and TAM

spongebobhorsepants

ddthetide 08-02-2007 05:49 AM

Dreadnaught-had gotten to be an "old turf warhorse" and Brilliant.
