SUCKS that Zac is out (kidney stone)... wonder who gets the mount!

He's not a morning horse, always been like that. Was the same way in Singapore.

Prebble is listed on Military Attack as of 9:33 Sunday morning local. Must have passed fit.

GL MMSC, I'm not making any plays.

Thanks Kitan.

Awesome that Blazing Speed won and whoa... Gibson totally ruled the Sprint Cup. Didn't hit it but oh well, it's all good!

Replay(s): (for anyone who missed it and cares. There's also the mini-site that Kitan linked previously)...

I am assuming Lucky Nine still goes to Singapore to defend his Kris Flyer title no matter what...

my miss storm cat 04-29-2015 09:38 AM

Was catching up on Lugers earlier replays... Jesus that is a nice horse. No one beats Able Friend but it will be interesting to see how the Champions Mile plays out.

Love that the mini-site always has the replays of past greats. Good Lord Bullish Luck, Able Friend, Good Ba Ba ... those will always be my favorites of all time.

Spectacular!

Able Friend winning the Champions Mile...

Completely dominant. I know they ran the first half in 50 seconds, but his final 1/4 was a shade over 21. Breathtaking stuff.

_ed_ 05-04-2015 12:25 AM

That was a stunning performance.

Nice to see Princess Coup's son Thewizardofoz make a winning debut. :)

Able Friend is awesome indeed. any plans on racing outside of Hong Kong this year?

They're thinking about the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot...

Curious to see if he can accelerate the same way on the flat mile. I don't expect it to be an issue, however. He is a beast.

Wow was it really ten years ago?

I will never forget that and as if to foreshadow remember that SW's workout buddy Highlili beat him in a barrier trial?

I did not fall apart... I was a huge Bullish Luck fan (a fan of both) but I remember the call so perfectly and the massive crowd going completely silent... feeling so bad for Felix.

I love following NZ especially these days and there are some phenomenal horses over there but yeah... those were the great days of HK racing - my favorite of all time - and I was so lucky to have stumbled up it at the right time as I had only been a racing fan for one year.

Had glanced at this in the SCMP but very happy you posted it so I could read it again. :)

Man, it is time to retire good old California Memory.

Good for Andreas for pulling him up...

Classic race between 2 champions and a classic race call to boot.

Honestly my friend I was holding my breath so I wouldn't start crying reading Matt Chadwicks comments cause you know they're from the heart (and Tony's too). I am just so happy especially thinking about and continuing to write letters and emails on behalf of Viva Pataca and getting nowhere.. no further responses... feels like your heart is pulled out of your body and stomped on at times but oh this horse... THIS horse? What a great ending he will have to his fairy tale. The little grey gets a BIG Sha Tin ceremony and off he goes, into the sunset for a life of leisure.

Very very happy and I know you are too. :)

If only they could all have such careers and such happy endings. Geez I am about to start crying again. Must get a grip now! :D

my miss storm cat 06-13-2015 05:34 PM

It gets even better... California Memory to Living Legends.

Who could ask for anything more... :) :{>:

The Hong Kong racing public bid a collective farewell Sunday to onetime Horse of the Year California Memory, who has been retired from racing at the age of nine. The only horse in history to record back-to-back runnings of the G1 Hong Kong Cup, the diminutive gray, bred by Fred Seitz, won 12 times and amassed earnings of nearly US$6.7 million. He will live out his days at Living Legends Retirement Facility in Australia.

John Blance is the new presenter/commentator/pundit with the HKJC for this upcoming year. Comes from Britain where he calls for At The Races and SIS. Can't say I know too much about him and his calls are a bit hard to find but interested to see how he gets on!
