just talked to a friend of mine, who was about to close on his first home...
yep, it's on hold now. thanks, congress. and this scenario is being repeated thousands of times across this country. what else will be held up, due to a small group of angry republicans, throwing a temper tantrum cause they can't get their way?

The skunk has replaced the Eagle as the new symbol of the American Presidency. It is half black, half white, and everything it does stinks.
It is said that: If you give a man a fish you will feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime!
New Obama Proverb: If you give a man hope of getting a job, he will vote Democrat for a year! If you give a man a welfare check, a free cell phone, free internet, food stamps, section 8 housing, free contraceptives, ninety-nine weeks of unemployment, free health care and free medicine... He will vote Democrat the rest of his life and several more times after he's dead.

The Federal government should not be in the mortgage business. That in part was what got us into the mess we're in.

Banks and mortgage companies are open today. Can't qualify with them it's probably not the right time to buy a home.

Leno made a point last night. Since a third of government is shut down shouldn't taxpayers get a tax refund?

Surely we're not going to pay workers for staying home and doing nothing! Or are we? :wf

i know i heard some people saying on the news that they blame the administration as much as congress for the shutdown...but how can that be?
i guess they don't understand the process on things like the debt ceiling. this is congresses baby, not the presidents.
and now i'm seeing stuff about boehner emails being leaked. they say he said one thing publically, another privately-so why leak them? we all know that pols are liars and hypocrites!!

You have it backwards. There are a number of gov't employees considered essential who are still required to work, even though they are not getting paid. When the shutdown ends, they may or may not get paid for the work they did during the shutdown. Depends on how Congress feels.

Well those at work today and in the future should be paid.

Those that were furloughed and stayed home should not.

And the furloughed fed employees who chose to march in front of the Dirksen Federal Bldg. in Chicago yesterday and today are getting some much needed and long overdue exercise and should be happy for that.

one of the more obvious side benefits of this national cluster f is that a weak democratic candidate in the virginia governors race is going to get a free pass to the governorship.

you really couldn't script a better scenario for terry mcauliffe. the virginia republicans change their nominating process to a convention from a primary empowering activists who nominate tea party favorite ken cuccinelli. who now has to explain that he opposes the tea party in congress and that somehow he is different from the national movement. good luck.

virginia is going to be another election that republicans could have won but didn't.

Demotards need to play this up in the media, how we are vulnerable for an attack. They also need to play the "World Wide Depression" angle if we default. We are after all a nation that basis our conclusions on Sound-Bites and headlines.

There's a interview in Chicago that's on continuous loop with an old lady saying she paid in SS money her whole life and now congress won't let the President send her the money that's there.

If only she knew the money isn't there, never was and congress needs to raise the debt ceiling so the President can borrow more money to pay her.

Reminds me of the degenerate gambler that goes to the barber to ask for $10 to make a bet. The barber says, 'You already owe me $20'. The gambler responds, 'yea but if I don't get the ten, I can't pay your $20'

We anticipate total tax revenues at $2.7 trillion for 2013. Our budget should be under that. Instead of another jury-rig fix of borrowing more money, let's shut down all non-essential government employees/programs, adjust it to run under $2.7 trillion, raise the debt ceiling and then re-start it. Until then let's pass a 3-month essential spending bill and let congress and the senate to get to work.

It's going to be painful but imagine the pain of interest payments on a trillion dollars times every year infinitely?

If the President thinks his healthcare program is so essential, let him find a trillion that is less important. Stopping billion dollar programs like destroying cars is a start. This guy spends money like a spoiled kid at Chuckie Cheese and gets the same junk in return.

Congress has absolutely NO incentive since they are getting paid to end this. **** they can even buy puts on the market without going to jail KNOWING that they won't resolve it and push us into default.

Danzig 10-03-2013 09:34 AM

well, thank god they at least cut a deal to let the service academies play football saturday. i know people were on edge, holding out hope they could watch navy play air force.
priorities, people!!

and repubs are also up in arms, and asking for an investigation on the oh so important 'who closed the ww2 memorial' issue.

i mean, to heck with fha loans and slowing the recently resurrected housing industry...wic program ending payment, etc. no one cares if people can eat, but by god, they need to be able to get into a monument.

when the govt shuts down, the first thing that should happen is congress gets nothing. no money, no benefits, no perks, nothing.

See the Vets raised a stink and it made headlines. They only address headlines. BAM making his play on the markets tanking if this isn't addressed. If they do sell off it should put sufficient pressure on those holding us hostage. But those holding us hostage (Bloods) also know that come the witching hour BAM absolutely won't willingly throw us into a world wide depression on his watch as it will affect his Crips of getting elected and he will invoke his powers under the 14th amendment at which times the Bloods will start impeachment proceedings. Geez I wish they would resort to guns and knives like normal gangsters and leave us out of it.

i went to Tom Cottons website to leave comments. i noticed he wrote that he was 'trying to protect arkansas from obamacare'. so it led me to look around, and try to find info on the act.
another thing i'm wondering...sequestration was supposed to be a killer. hasn't happened.
another question-what's hurting us more right now? the impending beginning of obamacare (since sign ups are occurring now, but it won't take effect til 1/1/14), or the govt shutdown already here, with a debt ceiling about to be hit, and no solution in sight?

also...how does the party that's supposed to be all about religion and god and what would jesus do, argue against medical care for the poor? how do they reconcile that?
how do they scream and rail against the govt in our doctors offices, while pushing legislation to put govt in doctors' offices with their 'pro-life' legislation? they don't want a mandate for insurance, to allow folks to go to the doctor, but they sure like mandates about what certain doctors have to do!

What do you think Jesus would do/say regarding abortion clinics?

Even though The Little Sisters of the Poor and Catholic Charities are anti-gay hate groups (they don't support same-sex marriage) and are pro-life how many children/families do they feed?

How many do pro-choice groups feed?

Because it has nothing to do with religious principles and everything to do with maintaining the current system of economic and social stratification. Women who do not have individual, independent control over their reproductive lives are not free.

The day the poor whites in Appalachia realize they have more in common with the poor blacks in inner cities than they do with the rich whites in gated communities is the day we'll see real change in the nation. Not until then.

Hell, even the Moral Majority movement started as a reaction against Carter's taking away tax benefits that let Southern Whites continue segregation through the guise of "religious schooling." The post-Nixon GOP saw an opportunity and grabbed it.

There are pro-choice even for same sex marriage, republicans out there.

Just as there are democrats that are not government dependent.
