Correct. Sire of a dozen millionaires...and that doesn't include Mariah's Storm who ran a 120 Beyer in an easy victory over fellow Rahy filly Serena's Song.

That's awesome, thanks.

Two great things....Durkin and Creme Fraiche coming up a dead rail.

Did you know Creme Fraiche won his debut in a maiden claimer?

Lakeville Miss, Champion and dam of Mogambo, broke her maiden for a tag as well.

Yes. Mig rode him.

I loved Proud Truth. It's amazing he came back from his injury to win that BC Classic.

Indian Charlie 01-14-2013 06:50 PM

Yeah, Proud Truth was one of those generally forgotten and underappreciated horses most people don't know much about.

That crop he was in was sick.

Calzone Lord 01-14-2013 06:53 PM

Wasn't much after his first 9 races ... with only a maiden win under bug rider Willie Martinez to show... but this horse eventually won and placed in a few big races.

Got to be Lukas. Who else would run a maiden in the Champagne.

That was a huge race.. the only one of the Kentucky Cup races that Lukas lost that year..

I wasn't aware of that.. but going through some stuff from the 80s, Woody Stephens seemed to have a lot of very nice horses. Makes me regret not getting in to racing sooner..

From a previous trivia ... here were the final 3 career starts of Halo America (the grey filly getting drowned in that clip)

Halo America won 15 of 40 career starts and made over $1.4 million -- and she, by chance, was sired by Waquoit.

By chance?

You mean like Waquoit saw her in a field and picked her out for mating?

Indian Charlie 01-14-2013 07:34 PM

Speaking of Mariah's Storm and Serena's Song, an even better matchup of Rahy fillies was Serena's Song and Exotic Wood in a desperate stretch battle at Santa Anita.

She really deserved that win in the Apple Blossom.. she had run so well in the two prior runnings behind Heavenly Prize and Twice The Vice..

The aforementioned 15 length win by Waquoit in the 88 Jockey Club Gold Cup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmCavcaCYqg

Good to know Batagglia sucked in 1995, too.

Nice easy win for Waqouit, but here is one in which he had to work a little harder. With a great call by Big Jim Hannon.

Holy crap that was a great race!

Having grown up in Socal, races like the Mass Cap were rarely seen. That had to be one of the best runnings in the history of that race (both in field quality and excitement), I am guessing.

Lost Code was pretty awesome the following year ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIvYK7iurbc

He was a machine that season and ran huge figure after huge figure ... his only defeat was when he was too worried about Alysheba and let Bet Twice get a dream rail run and then herd him out a bit through the stretch in the '88 Pimlico Special.
