In fairness to the village manager, however, the statement he released is the Police Chief's words, in answer to press questions, not the village managers (VM was on a TV program last night and clarified that). So it is the Police Chief saying he couldn't do an arrest, not the village manager. Which makes it even more screwed.

The tape has the,"the assholes always get away" comment, and the controversial (is it real? deleted by the PD? added later?) "f.u.c.k.ing coons" comment from Zimmerman, before he ever got out of the car and had physical contact with the kid he murdered.

All Zimmerman knew about the person he saw walking is that he thought he was black.

I am at a loss as to why people thought that the election of a President would make people less biased or racist? Not to mention that this country hardly has a monopoly on racist people. Most conflicts in the world have a large element of race/religion involved

Yeah, a shame, as this is the most free country in the world, created out of immigrants and mixed races. Too bad the hate and racism of some persists, even here. Look at the Christian Taliban here. Look at Rick Santorums current "preacher" problem, just like Rev. Wright, the preacher telling everyone not like him to get out of the USA. It's disgusting, their hate to non-what-they-are.

And that hate and racism and bigotry should be least tolerable in the United States than anywhere else on earth, according to our Constitution. Our whole existence here is founded upon, "All men are created equal".

Obama's election merely brought the racist and intolerating and bigoted out of their crypts, where we can point at them in disgust.

Yes and the racism of those immigrants isn't eliminated when they touch ground here.

True: Italian, Jewish, Irish, German, Mexican, Japanese, etc. Racists are racists.

But that doesn't mean we should tolerate that here. Racism is learned behaviour. Do you think we should tolerate racism in the United States?

I believe that it is your right to be racist as long as you remain within the laws of the land. I wouldn't consider myself racist in the least and have disassociated myself at times of my life with those who are but sometimes the political correctness in this country gets completely out of hand.

Of course it's one's "right" to be racist in the USA. Fully agree. The question was, do you think we should tolerate racism in the US?

Socially tolerating racism is a sure way to propogate it, IMO, as it's learned behaviour.

If one is with someone, and they say, "Hey, look at that ...... " (fill in any obviously hateful racial expletive) one has a choice on how to react.

I agree that political correctness can get out of hand here.

It is difficult to not tolerate it to a degree because of the freedom as individuals that we have. The thing is that the country has made tremendous strides in this area yet we are often browbeaten into thinking that racism is still running rampant. As long as you have people with differences socially, economically, historically, culturally, etc you are going to have some biases and racism that will live on regardless.

And today's unbelievably moronic comment winner is Geraldo Rivera, who said today on Fox News:

There is no facepalm large enough to describe this.

Hint, Geraldo: Treyvon was killed by a racist toting a gun and pursing a black man. His hoodie had nothing to do with it.

Has Geraldo issued an edict to the New England Patriots cautioning them about allowing Bill Belichick to wear his favorite sideline gear next season?

I now am convinced this whole case IS about race and the Sanford PD after all. Think of it this way. If Trayvon had been legally carrying, and Zimmerman was casually walking along (roles reversed), and the same thing happened, what would you have? Answer - a murdered innocent guy and another black guy in the pokey not likely to be heard from ever again.

Where is Zimmerman, by the way? Is he in Casey Anthony land? Is anyone speaking for him yet? If he's smart, he's long gone.

Now there are stories in various sources about three witnesses. Two that saw Zimmerman kneeling over an immobile Treyvon. And one that says Trayvon (100 pounds lighter than Zimmerman) was on top of Zimmerman, holding him down, while Zimmerman was screaming for help.

The police department dismissed the first two witnesses, and released Zimmerman based upon the third is the way the story is being told.

This is seriously crazy. Why isn't the guy simply arrested for manslaughter and booked, so the case will stop being tried in public, and associates of the case have to stop talking about it in public? What is wrong with this police department?

Some lawyer, who only said he was a "representative", showed up and said Zimmerman is hiding in fear of his life.

On the news tonite they said Trayvon is 6' 2' 140lbs...Zimmerman 5' 9' 220lbs..

Amazing how you criticize someone for making comments alleging they could not possibly have knowlege that is supposedly within your expertise (when in reality it really is not), yet you have no problem jumping into the expertise of others while expressing an assumptive clueless position. Of course, we have become used to you accusing others of things that you constantly do yourself.

You have no concept of criminal law, the actual evidence authorities have in this case or what it takes to indict a person for manslaughter. It is foolish to come to the conclusions that you have without knowing exactly what the authorities know. Then again, it has never stopped you before.
