Look who just got home. Also, this is our first shot of the little guy nursing that I'm aware of.

Thanks for posting that. Very cute photo. It's nice Stonestreet is keeping fans updated with pictures.

It does look like an upside down heart. He looks like a strong little guy. :)

Oh dear, a legit name contest: http://www.drf.com/news/contest-give...lexandras-foal This isn't some 'offer name suggestions to the Mosses for Zenyatta's baby whether they want them or not.' You've actually got 5 days to submit 1 name, and there's a nice prize package of sorts. Wanna hang with Rachel and baby? Well it could be you if you win.

This is going to sound idiotic but if you look at his star doesn't it look like the missing piece to her mane (if it were a puzzle)?

You mean the missing white piece to Rachel's blaze? That's what I think. If you look at it that way it makes them even more adorable together. If that's possible.

Oh, I submited a name in the contest. If I win do you want to go with me to visit them?

... and that, kids, is what happens when I Haven't yet had enough coffee.

Yes her blaze. God. :D :o

Oh and absolutely! I would love to go!

I'm terrible at thinking of names or I'd have entered by now.

Merlinsky 02-17-2012 07:18 PM

2 days since a Rachel and baby update? Can't have that! ;) Here's a new Bloodhorse slideshow. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...andra-and-foal and the blog: http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/throu...-her-foal.aspx Some great new shots. I get the color similarity and socks, but when they say spitting image of Rachel, can anybody speak more to conformation?

Also, 2 days left in foal name suggestion contest.

Less than an hour to get your name suggestion in. Just sent mine. If you go on the FB page, there are some doozies that people threw out there and by "people" I mean 13 year olds that love pretty horsies. I'm sure most of the folks won't think to check the registry to see if it's available in all its ridiculous glory so Stonestreet will have a mess of sorting that first. The next large chunk will have gone with Alexandra's Curlin or some variation from what I can tell.

I wanted to come up with one more apropos as far as Jess or the pedigree was concerned, but the one I liked most just didn't do that. It might seem out of the blue. I don't anticipate it getting selected just for that, but I figured it was worth a shot. I'll use it myself one day if they don't pick it. I hope a DTer gets the honors. :)

https://twitter.com/#!/StonestreetFa...051008/photo/1 Here he is with "Grandpa" Steve as Stonestreet put it. That's one big foal. I assume Steve Asmussen's not a shortie.

I had a question, I've noticed that thing on the left side of the foal's neck before. Is that some sort of area left over from when he and Rachel were being medically looked over early on? An injection or blood drawing site perhaps?

No, that resulted from a rabid bite from Smooth Operator.

Merlinsky asked about Lotta Kim early in the thread. I saw the posting on Bloodhorse.com just last week that Lotta Kim has been confirmed in foal to Lookin At Lucky! That isn't one that I ever would have thought of for her, not that there's anything wrong with it. It just surprised me.

2006 - Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d'Oro)
2007 - Empire Ruler (Empire Maker) Unraced
2011 - Samantha Nicole (Medaglia d'Oro)

I'm curious to know why she didn't produce any offspring for 3 straight years between an unraced horse that's now a 5yo and Rachel's yearling full sister.

For Stonestreet Farm and Fans of Rachel Alexandra, Social Media is the (Golden) Ticket

Quote:

And last weekend, Stonestreet offered something more: the opportunity for three lucky fans to go behind the farm’s gates to meet Rachel Alexandra and her foal. Last Friday at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Stonestreet’s digital media manager, Amy Kearns, offered three Stonestreet golden tickets to lucky recipients who were in the right place at the right time

My 2010 Bris APR shows nothing for 2008 or 2009 though.

I'll be getting the 2012 version soon, I'll check again when I get it.

Nice piece with video of Rachel and her growing boy who appears to be nicknamed Taco with a choice on an actual name in a couple months. They couldn't resist talking about Zenyatta's foal, but it's a fairly Rachel-centric article. This colt sure seems like a real character.

For the record, it's been a whole week since the last photo (don't shoot the messenger bringing you pictures of cute babies; cute foal overload? I don't think that exists) and this is one that Stonestreet's been trying to get for awhile because Taco is so independent and Rachel let's him go off and do whatever.

Gorgeous boy. Looks a lot like his momma, of course I'm probably projecting because he's bay. I'm curious what Curlin's imparted physically. Taco's the only one raised by RA who let him be pretty independent so I wonder how that affected his personality compared to her filly by Bernardini. She was a pretty huge foal so I'm curious how big she is now.

I'm curious as to whether they've made a permanent decision about Rachel's future.

I can't remember exactly how they came up with that barn name, but I wanna say that back when they were asking fans to help come up with something, a name got suggested that was really off the wall and Taco was part of it. It amused them and that part of it stuck. I'd almost rather have had that happen than to win the "Jess's Dream" draw out of a hat where you're one of many who came up with the same thing. They'll be calling him Taco a lot of the time.

Danzig 12-18-2013 05:38 PM

i'd rather be taco than 'jess's dream'. ugh. and a colt at that.

I loved the choice for the foal of Rachel's pasture buddy Hot Dixie Chick. They named her Curlin colt Union Jackson, combining honoring Jess with referencing the names of the parents.

Barbara Livingston did a blog/photo spread of Rachel. Some nice shots of Rachel with other mares or jumping about and looking at the camera.

No mention of whether they plan to breed her again, and Barbara said in the comments that she didn't ask because that's not what the article was to be about. Someone had asked her about it with a bit of pearl clutching and you just wanna tell people that RA's not their horse and they don't have inside info on her medical status. Stonestreet clearly treats her like a queen. They'll make the decision at some point if they haven't already and they don't need outside angsting to remind them of how beloved she is.
