Whatsthescript was the 3rd choice and was coming in off a 60 day layoff. The rest of the field was highlighted by Shakis, Daytona, and Precious Kitten. The utterly impossible US Ranger was only 17-1.

The 2009 field had a ton of speed and the biggest question was whether she was going to be able to stay as close as she did in 2008 and be successful. Of course, she proved in that race that you can put her anywhere and she'll be fine. With Delegator and Zacinto running so poorly the competition was weak when push came to shove.

Proviso and Sidney's Candy took serious money last year. A filly who had been fortunate to win one time after another against her own sex and a one-time turf winner coming in off a nearly 90 day layoff who had missed his prep. Paco Boy was a horse whose measure she simply had and Gio Ponti was never going to make up the ground Dominguez asked him to that day.

A healthy Courageous Cat, a razor sharp Turallure, and Gio Ponti off his best effort of 2011 prove a formidable threat and that's not even touching on Strong Suit and Byword. This may not be the toughest group she's faced in the BC but it sure as hell isn't the easiest.

Win or lose its great the brothers Chanel have her racing and not producing foals/ Most G1 winners make 4 starts not enter and race in 4 BC's. Now lets all hold hands and sing

Respectfully I think the MIle looks pretty damned dreadful this year, sorry to say.

I do think more of this year's Mile field than you do and that it's the toughest she's faced in the last three years.

Let me know when you put down the crackpipe and maybe we can talk some more about it. :p

MMSC, I think you're wrong on this one. That is all.

As they say we'll just agree to disagree. :)

I don't care about the depth of the field, because she's not going to lose to the "field". I think it takes one special horse that gets the jump on her next week, or she wins again. I don't see a Canford Cliffs or even Paco Boy here. Sorry, but she's already easily bested Courageous Cat and Gio Ponti at their best. There's some Grade 1 cred here, but who among the field has won an open Grade 1 race in 2011 at a mile? That would be the 3 who previously tried the BC Mile and weren't in the same ballpark.

Turallure has won an open GI race at a mile this year.

To say that Courageous Cat wasn't in her ballpark 2 years ago is a bit rash. He is also a much better horse now than he was then.

Is Gio Ponti at or better than his 2010 form?

Has Goldikova lost a (small) step?

If yes and yes, then I give him a chance to go out on top.
