:D GO, JIMMY!

I'm going to the races at Ellerslie (scene of his NZ Derby triumph) on Saturday, and they'll show the race on the big screen. Can't wait.

my miss storm cat 10-22-2011 11:31 AM

Ed I have seen nothing for a few days (no news, nada) - what the hell happened with Lion Tamer??????? :( :( :(

Gutted.

_ed_ 10-23-2011 07:33 AM

He broke a leg just after crossing the line. :( So sad. What a lovely horse.

Jimmy was a bit unlucky, but the winner was fantastic.

Pedigree Ann 10-23-2011 08:04 AM

Congrats to the All Blacks on the World Rugby championships. Kiwis breed some of the best athletes in the world, human and equine.:)

_ed_ 10-23-2011 08:13 AM

Thanks! Today was an amazing day - one none of the 60,000 of us lucky enough to be there will forget.

But it was so tense! We won by just one point, and France were in a threatening position for most of the last 10 minutes. It felt more like an hour!

The G3 Sarten Memorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcXJa46mgIQ

What a great race! Wish I could have been there.

my miss storm cat 11-01-2011 02:28 PM

Good for Antonio!

What's coming up this weekend?

clyde 11-01-2011 04:12 PM

Don't tell the little trouble maker.

Haha, nicely done.

This weekend is one of our main races of the year - the 2000 Guineas! The last three winners were Tell A Tale, Katie Lee and Jimmy Choux.

This year's field:

1 1X13 Ginner Hart 3 80 56.0 Patrick Holmes Alexander Fieldes, Wanganui
2 111 Burgundy 11 79 56.0 Matthew Cameron Jason Bridgman, Matamata
3 5X312 Shuka 7 79 56.0 Hayden Tinsley Peter & Dawn Williams, Riccarton Park
4 511 President Lincoln 4 78 56.0 Lisa Latta, Awapuni
5 30534 Dollario 8 76 56.0 Danielle Johnson John Sargent, Matamata
6 12622 Micken 12 74 56.0 Rosie Myers (a) Kevin Myers, Wanganui
7 60X71 Shanghai Bund 10 74 56.0 Vinnie Colgan John Sargent, Matamata
8 122 Rock 'n' Pop 1 72 56.0 Jamie Bullard Jason Bridgman, Matamata
9 X1533 Bulwer Bay 5 70 56.0 Terry Moseley Mandy & Matt Brown, Ngapuke
10 X5215 Royal Hu 6 68 56.0 Jay Misbah Terri Rae, Riccarton Park
11 216 Secret Whisper 13 68 56.0 Daniel Stackhouse (a) Jason Bridgman, Rangiora
12 11X12 Anabandana 9 90 54.5 James McDonald (a) Don Sellwood, Cambridge
13 21X18 Kasumi 2 74 54.5 Darryl Bradley John Sargent, Matamata

I think Burgundy could be special - three for three without being touched with the whip. Anabandana's always hard to beat.

No Antonio Lombardo. Apparently he's not a good traveller. I can understand that, but I thought the 2000 Guineas might have been worth the trip!

I'll be catching an early-morning plane down there on Saturday, like every year! Can't wait!

my miss storm cat 11-03-2011 08:39 PM

Have a great time and let us know who wins!

_ed_ 11-03-2011 09:24 PM

Thanks! It's a tiring day - have to be back tomorrow night and go to work on Sunday morning! But it's worth it. I hope Burgundy is as good as he has looked so far. Six O'Clock News is running in the Metropolitan as well.

And Jimmy and Wall Street are running in the Emirates in Melbourne. :)

_ed_ 11-05-2011 06:03 AM

The 2000 Guineas winner is...

ROCK 'N' POP!

Son of Fastnet Rock and 1993 NZ Derby winner Popsy (the last filly to win the Derby).

4 starts for 2 wins and 2 seconds now.

This was an amazing performance. It's almost like he heard everyone saying this race was just about Burgundy and Anabandana and wanted to prove a point.

Anabandana was second. Dollario third. Burgundy, the favourite and the winner's stablemate, faded and came sixth.

I'll post the replay soon.

clyde 11-05-2011 11:43 PM

Can't wait Ed!!

Gosh Ed, I thought this was going to be Italy's version of the Boston Marathon.

But it was very good, although I had no idea what the announcer was saying.

thaaanks!!

_ed_ 11-10-2011 06:59 PM

And now it's the girls' turn in the 1000 Guineas.

1 1X122 Anabandana 3 88 56.0 James McDonald (a) Don Sellwood, Cambridge
2 6X114 Artistic 7 80 56.0 Michael Coleman Shaune Ritchie, Cambridge
3 X3813 Holy Moly 11 80 56.0 Vinnie Colgan Roger James, Cambridge
4 3X213 Planet Rock 13 76 56.0 Hayden Tinsley Peter & Dawn Williams, Riccarton Park
5 21X18 Kasumi 8 74 56.0 Jamie Bullard John Sargent, Matamata
6 3X714 Unbelieveabelle 5 74 56.0 Lisa Whelan (a) Stephen Crutchley, Wanganui
7 7X311 Kindred 15 73 56.0 Matthew Cameron Jason Bridgman, Rangiora
8 X6634 Beejay Belle 1 70 56.0 Rosie Myers (a) Murray Baker, Cambridge
9 4X133 Capital Diamond 6 70 56.0 Jonathan Riddell Lisa Latta, Awapuni
10 01 Abeautifulred 12 68 56.0 Jason Collett (a) Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Tuhikaramea
11 14 Full Of Spirit 2 68 56.0 Jason Waddell Roger James, Cambridge
12 23X31 Pasha Sumore 4 68 56.0 Noel Harris Stephen Dravitzki, Stratford
13 28201 Zah Girl 16 68 56.0 Daniel Stackhouse (a) Shaun Clotworthy, Byerley Park
14 63X52 Capricious 10 58 56.0 Lisa Allpress Richard Otto, Te Awamutu
15 4X23 Viana 9 58 56.0 Kelly Myers Jason Bridgman, Rangiora
16 42 Asavant 14 57 56.0 Kylie Williams John & Karen Parsons, Balcairn

I think they'll have some trouble beating Ana here.

_ed_ 11-12-2011 04:28 AM

Anabandana was scratched because of the rain-affected track. So, the next best thing... PLANET ROCK! She's fabulous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaxCPtFl0g8

So Fastnet Rock sired the winners of both the 2000 Guineas (Rock 'n' Pop) and 1000 Guineas (Planet Rock)!

my miss storm cat 11-12-2011 12:22 PM

Very nice!

How do you think she'd have done had Ana not been scratched?

_ed_ 11-12-2011 08:08 PM

Good question! They've never met in a race yet.

I would probably say Ana would win, and I think most people would say that. But it might be closer than a lot of people think! Planet Rock is improving fast.

_ed_ 11-14-2011 07:58 PM

Early entries for the NZ Derby:
http://www.nzracing.co.nz/Meetings/Meeting.aspx/39854

At this stage, my picks would be Rock 'n' Pop and two impressive maiden winners - Malandrino and Nashville.

I'm leaving Antonio out because I think he's more of a sprinter/miler. I don't think they'll end up going to the Derby with him.

my miss storm cat 11-14-2011 08:11 PM

Wow it's almost upsetting only knowing like 2 names on the list!

_ed_ 11-14-2011 08:57 PM

That's understandable! Hardly any of them have been racing in the best stakes races so far - only Antonio, 2000 Guineas winner Rock 'n' Pop and 1000 Guineas winner Planet Rock have really featured in the videos I've been posting.

I've only heard of 24 of those 177 horses myself!

Some of them haven't even debuted yet.

_ed_ 11-17-2011 04:15 AM

my miss storm cat 11-17-2011 09:55 AM

Nice fields! Can't wait!

my miss storm cat 11-19-2011 01:44 PM

What the hell happened with He's Remarkable?

Missed the race, saw the headline BUT would rather hear the bad news from you!

_ed_ 11-19-2011 07:26 PM

He won it brilliantly, but he bumped a horse when he was making a move to get off the rail just before the home turn and they took him down. :(

I don't agree with the decision at all. It was quite a major bump, so McEvoy should get a suspension, but there was no reason to change the result.

It was such a long way from the finish and he won so easily that there's no way you can be sure the result would have been different without the interference.

Really disappointed, and I feel so sorry for his connections - robbed of a G1 win. :(

_ed_ 11-19-2011 07:37 PM

Roger's not happy. :(

http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...rth-relegation

my miss storm cat 11-20-2011 01:34 PM

That SUCKS.

my miss storm cat 11-20-2011 04:53 PM

28 day suspension...

_ed_ 11-21-2011 05:20 AM

In better news, it was a great day on Saturday.

Red Ruler was scratched from the G2 Counties Cup because of soreness in a front leg. The trainer said “I don’t think it’s anything serious and he should be fine again after a couple of days.”

In his absence, the Cup was one for the little guys - Postman's Daughter won the race for local owner/trainer/breeder Don Walker.

Replay: http://youtu.be/YJuZjzeQuoU

The lovely Fazzle finally won a big race in the Breeders. Replay: http://youtu.be/GT-_v9-ZjPE

Travino won the 2yo stakes race well. I loved the run of the second horse, Silk Pins, down the outside. Replay: http://youtu.be/hwSsg0xebhI

And look at this maiden win on the undercard. Derby horse?
http://youtu.be/oRGCczVpowk

Great time of year. :)

Edit: Whoa, the sound is really bad in these videos. Sorry about that.

my miss storm cat 11-21-2011 01:38 PM

Thanks for the Red Ruler news!

Watched the first, very nice! You're right about the sound!

Will watch the other two later. :)

_ed_ 11-21-2011 11:25 PM

http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...-Levin-Classic

Aw. :( I was looking forward to that clash with Antonio.

But the Derby is what really matters for him, so it makes sense.

my miss storm cat 11-22-2011 06:09 PM

That's too bad.

Why did I thinbk Rock'n'Pop was a she? Sorry! I usually don't make that mistake.

_ed_ 11-22-2011 07:16 PM

That's perfectly understandable - two very similarly named 3yos by Fastnet Rock won the two big Guineas races this month.

Rock 'n' Pop is a colt who won the 2000 Guineas, and Planet Rock is a filly who won the fillies' version of that race, the 1000 Guineas. You're not the first one to get them mixed up since then!

Other news - Roger James might be going to appeal! http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times...ay-be-appealed Wow.

my miss storm cat 11-23-2011 07:13 PM

Thank you that's who I'm thinking of!

Who else is running this weekend?

Good luck, Antonio!

_ed_ 11-23-2011 09:16 PM

G1 Levin Classic

1 2X111 Antonio Lombardo 6 93 56.5 Sam Spratt Peter McKay, Matamata
2 48431 Duckworth Lewis 16 85 56.5 Leith Innes Leo Molloy, Byerley Park
3 20X21 Brackenwood 4 82 56.5 Darryl Bradley Lisa Latta, Awapuni

7 113 San Rafael 10 73 56.5 Jonathan Riddell Mike Breslin, Awapuni
8 47X87 Distill 9 65 56.5 Robert Hannam Roydon Bergerson, Awapuni
9 4X81 Danny Ricardo 11 64 56.5 Buddy Lammas Gary Vile, Awapuni
10 15 Platinum Playboy 14 64 56.5 Patrick Holmes Shane Crawford, Cambridge
11 0X542 Release Me 8 64 56.5 Hayden Tinsley Stephen McKee, Ardmore
12 6X315 Viking Ace 3 64 56.5 Cameron Lammas Karyn McQuade, Matamata
13 4X22 Urunga 12 54 56.5 Kelly Myers Adrian Bull, Hunterville
14 51345 Whoshe 2 76 54.5 Mark Sweeney Richard Otto, Te Awamutu
15 0741 Lego 1 64 54.5 Lisa Allpress Kevin Gray, Copper Belt Lodge, Palmerston North
16 01X47 Smoke 'N' Mirrors 17 63 54.5 David Walker Francis Finnegan, Woodville
17 64 Ratnaraj 5 51 56.5 Peter McKenzie, Levin

Antonio is clearly the best horse in that field. My only concern is that apparently the weather's not great down there today. I'm not sure how he'll handle a wet track.

There's also a nice G3 here in Auckland this weekend:

1 111X4 Veyron 6 99 58.0 Rogan Norvall Linda Laing, Cambridge
2 000X0 Sir Slick 14 101 55.0 Jason Waddell John Sargent, Matamata

16 7X022 Catalina 1 88 53.0 Michael Coleman Guy Lowry & Grant Cullen, Hastings
17 2X171 Jeu de Cartes 3 83 53.0 Jason Collett (a) Murray Baker, Cambridge
18 23X24 Floria 5 79 53.0 Sam Spratt Stephen McKee, Ardmore

I'd love to see Sir Slick do well, or the great but injury-prone Pasta Post. But realistically I think it'll be Veyron, Shez Sinsational or Floria.

Wish I could be at Ellerslie for this race, but I have to work that day. :(

_ed_ 11-24-2011 05:09 PM

Good track for the Levin Classic! :)

herkhorse 11-24-2011 07:50 PM

I'll take Tai Chi Queen over Starguru, maybe throw in Bond or Kirk to complete the tri.

Who do you like in the Classic?
