All-time record for attendance for opening day at Del Mar and handle up 10percent than last year.

No one has any comment on this? Something positive and yet no one wants to say anything about it. Is it because it contradicts the title of this thread?

Ok.

I'll comment.

Every year there are more people in the world, and more specifically, there are more people in Socal every year. Therefore, it's really not a big surprise when more people show up to do something.

Let's see how things go the rest of the meet.

So if the attendance drops at Del Mar next year on opening day, I will just assume the worlds population just dropped? Thanks for biting

If that's what you think I said, you need to head back to first grade reading comprehension.

the first day handle is good news. as others have said here, and i have said elsewhere, ownership needs to grow. you see the news when a big stakes race gets a purse bump...but what about the day to day racing? those are the races that need attention. rich guys will get in the game, but it's people that aren't rich but would like to be owners who are the bread and butter. more owners, more horses. more horses, better cards. and better gambling of course.
the opening day numbers shows bettors are there. now-do what must be done to keep them, and get the numbers to grow. zero growth and/or decline are not conducive to a strong sport.

What should they do to entice "bread and butter" owners to join? If they do entice them, do the quality of stakes horses/competition improve or do we have "everyday joe" owner running his horses in stakes company after winning a claiming race. Del Mar right now has pretty decent fields, and is great to see that the payoffs are high.
