So Randall's point stands as well. :{>:

Not really, no.. Chuck was questioning the wider opportunities and potential for a Texas-bred juvenile. Not questioning pell mell the value, validity or integrity of Beyers.

I think that Shocktime's failure in the Debutante is not really much of an indicator of how Canigotoo will do later on in his career. The Debutante was a VERY strange race in that the two favorites dueled each other into the ground and finished last and next to last. It was also an ambitious spot for her but a chance that Calhoun had to take given the limited opportunities for her in TX and the surrounding areas at this point.

Chuck could very well be right about Canigotoo and I hedged by saying he could win in a neighboring state, not in a G3 in Kentucky.

Totally different run race as NTamm was saying.

Got loose on an uncontested lead without needing to be asked for much going 4.5f and 5f twice in the Texas Bred.

Going 6f against a bunch of recent open debut winners - was all out and couldn't make the lead through vicious fractions in relation to final time - quits, like they often do.

Happens all over. You'll see a precocious horse with no future at all get loose going short - and beat several future very classy stakes horses. Next time, they'll run into a bunch of other similar precocious horses - who also have no future - and also may have just pissed on eventual nice horses - and they'll get fried if they can't outrun the other speed or stalk and go.

We'll find out this Saturday night. He's entered in the Prairie Gold Juvenile at Prairie Meadows.
Shocktime, mentioned later in the thread is entered in the Lassie on the same card. Due to the State shutdown in MN, we're driving down to Iowa on Saturday for a wild night in Altoona, IA. :)

Based on what I'm reading, you'd better stock up on any Miller/Coors products you like while you're there!! Canigotoo will be short odds-----a wild night in Altoona will be long odds. Enjoy!!

A Giacomo out of a With Approval mare goes 21 1/5th and continues on wire-to-wire?

While I'll be

Funny thing about Giacomo - his dam Set Them Free was a blazing fast need the lead speed sprinter - and it's not like Holy Bull was a plodder either.

Not sure why, but Set Them Free - fast as all hell on the track - dropped one nice plodder after another as a broodmare.

What's odder still is that Holy Bull had a lot of speedy types in his earliest crops, then suddenly his progeny got a lot slower.

Any guess at which track Giacomo had his first offspring win?

I think it was some Po Dunk place - I know his first winning offspring came extremely early. Like March or April of its 2yo season if I recall.

Trust me, that wouldn't give it away...

It was the now defunct Manor Downs outside Austin, Texas. Trained by Cash Asmussen and ridden by one of the McNeils.

He gets another shot today. At least his running style fits the track condition. Thats the only positive I can come up with.
