Vic gets passed around (jobs) more than Tobias Beecher (dudes) does on Oz

SCUDSBROTHER 03-24-2011 04:51 PM

I think Carruthers is gunna play horses right up until his last breath. He and the Lush are the only 2 on there I cared about hearing.

jms62 03-24-2011 04:54 PM

The bottom line is that their selection of tracks simply blows especially in the winter.

Granted it's not the best collection of tracks going, but that being said the coverage that they provide these tracks just isn't good and doesn't enhance the races/betting opportunities. New York is a major circuit and they carry races from all three NYRA tracks. Why not dedicate a person to be on site in NY? Granted the inner isn't the most exciting meet in the world, but maybe the right coverage would enhance the broadcast for some of their customers.

I try to think about the formats that they use and unfortunately many of them lack any kind of substance. Obviously the best formats (as far as I'm concerned) is when they go on site with dedicated analysts from certain tracks. People like Jill Byrne(when she was there), Les Onaka and even Dave Brower when he gave reports from the Meadowlands. People like this had strong opinions based on knowledge and information from specializing on a specific circuit. People like this brought things to the table instead of just being a tapehead pushing one of their numerous pick 4 tickets from across the country that he/she threw together. I also though Paul LoDuca was very good where ever they stuck him.

There's nothing they could do about the racing, but there is plenty they could do to upgrade and enhance the broadcasts for their customers.

I am not sure what was a worse decision...the connections of Mine That Bird switching to D Wayne Lukas or Beecher moving into Verne Schillinger's pod.

VOL JACK 03-24-2011 08:19 PM

The last one they should have let go was Frank Mirahmadi!
He is the best capper they have.

What does Greg Wolf have to offer?

You love Laffit Pincay III too?! :{>:

Coach Pants 03-24-2011 09:47 PM

What they should do is fire all but 6-8 of on air talent and use the live feed talent of various tracks and pay them for 5-10 minutes of analysis between each race.

It's pretty obvious they're never going to have a producer that knows anything about horse racing. The brunt of the blame lies with that guy/gal.

I guess I wasn't the only one who saw Michelle Yu show off her bare feet on live air?

Who was she trying to attract - Rex Ryan? I never really got the whole foot fetish thing.

I have to think someone at the network put her up to that. When you can whip out your feet and show them off on tv ... that's job security I suppose.

Imagine if Jason Blewitt - or Kurt Hoover - or god forbid the big guy from Mountaineer decided to flaunt some foot to the camera in between races?

:tro:

With Andy sitting next to him? That would make it even funnier.

I understand that people get tattoos, I'm not judgmental, but Michelle Yu's are really gross when you see her in person.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-25-2011 07:57 AM

It has to land on top of something.

You wouldn't understand.

Coach Pants 03-25-2011 08:52 AM

Yu would show her snapper on tv if the price was right.

Agree. She's just not very good looking in person, and when your job is to be eye candy you better be.

Out of agenting business. Think Garrett hired Tony Matos. Excellent choice IMO

TVG programming is all over the map. The refusal to show Woodbine racing and an apparent anti-bias against harness racing seems to be noticeable to all parties now. The network seems to think that showing Remington and Charles Town would result in better figures, but it doesn't. Keeneland is on the net in a few weeks, but most of us (I would assume) will watch those races on their HD feed online.

All one has to do is watch the channel tonight to see what their motives are. Showing Turfway, Remington and Charles Town over Meadowlands and having Rich and Christina host "Drive Time" or whatever they would like to call it.

Coach Pants 03-25-2011 09:25 PM

What's wrong with Remington? And Charles Town is a great spot-play track.

You're just jellus.

trackrat59 03-26-2011 08:44 AM

Interesting thread.

I have both TVG and HRTV. I refuse to watch TVG. TVG to me is like reading fiction. At times I put HRTV on without the sound.

I don't give a rat’s about what ANY of those people have to say. If I want to find out what other people’s opinions are I usually come here to see if anyone has anything to say on the matter. If not, I decide on my own and hope for the best.

I use Twinspires so I can pick and choose what I want to watch when I want to watch it.

On the other hand I hate to hear that anyone lost their job.:( I hope those folks find work as quickly as possible. Best of luck to all of them.

I thought Frank Lyons got canned.
He's on the set w/ Todd & Simon??

I assume to spend more time with the family. We all know what a devoted husband and step dad Vic fashions himself to be!

Frank Lyons was on the air today, for those who thought he was off. I guess i am in the minority, I prefer TVG.

If you discount the effect Ken Rudolph has on my will to live, TVG is something I can generally tolerate.

I think Simon Bray has an appropriate last name so I try to tune him out as well, but the others I can deal with in short stints.

Frank Lyons I don't mind at all. He's bright, and says fairly interesting things.

I actually like Bray, I think he comes across as bright an informative. That being said, maybe it's just the effect because he always seems to be working with Schrupp and Rudolph. It's almost like when a so-so looking girl hangs out with a bunch of slobs, thus making her look like Ms. America. I guess it could be the same thing with Bray and I'm just being fooled.

As Teal'C would say.

Indeed.

IMO, TVG has a more complete body of work ovet the last 7-10 years than HRTV. You have to seperate the on air host filling time from any decent handicapping discussions. If they all talked 100% bland figures, times and pedigree, we would kill them for having no personallity.

Frank Lyons made me laugh and offered good insight with The Works and some of the deby coverage. If you liked any of the 4, don't see them landing on the alternative any time soon.

The works is a great show when Tom Amoss is talking. He knows exactly what is going on, but they could add another actual trainer, instead of Simon Bray and do really well with it. This is the one show worth a damn

Yeah, but truthfully it's only needed for a couple weeks a year (Derby and Breeders Cup weeks).

Sure does. He knows exactly what is going on in the pharmaceutical world, too.

I enjoy TVG, Kotulak was a stick in the mud although he did play his straight arrow part to a tee. Mr. B on the other hand Im not happy or sad one way or the other. I am also interested to see what Greg Wolf's new blog has, as he pointed out it might ruffle a few feathers at the network. But I dont like this wacky stuff they are trying out, like that show with Dave Weaver and Simon, where they pretended not to know they were being filmed while on a commercial break and Dave breaks some prop. That was not funny at all.

Seattleallstar 03-28-2011 02:49 PM

best analyst is Les Onaka hands down, he knows the QH's. TVG is crazy if they let him go.
