I think it's a somewhat poor field overall. I just think if she wins, it is what it is and she can certainly be considered a "great" horse. I learned my lesson last year. I thought she was vastly overrated based on the crap she was facing and her very slow synthetic races. She turned it up when she needed to and blasted what in all liklihood was a sub standard field. In the end if she wins it, she's pretty good historically. Whether that's top 10, top 30, top 50 or top 100 is for smarter people than me to discuss. I have zero reason to think she won't run as well as she did in the Classic last year.

I was at a polling station supporting a local candidate on Tuesday when one of the guys supporting the opposition asked his cohorts if they had seen the 60 minutes bit on this "amazing horse, can't remember the name". I crossed party lines to set him straight that even a win in the Classic would not make her "better than Secretariat".

Anyway, a lot of people do watch 60 minutes.

It's nice for regular people to care about things we care about, but those people aren't likely to make a meaningful difference to the sport.

Probably true, but before you become a bettor, you have to at least be aware of the sport.

I agree with all of what you said except the last line. Last year she ran at a familiar track and on a surface that she had won at many times. And without a cross-country plane trip.

Even if one considers Zenyatta as good as any other horse in the race, we'll be getting 2, 3, or 4 times the odds on LAL, Blame, and QR. I got burned last year, but I'm going in full blast again this year.

I have no idea how long you've been watching these races, but from someone who has been watching these races since 1989 you are way off base.

way off base on what? I thought she pretty much ran as well as she did last year. way off base that she faced crap the last two years other than this race? way off base in being wrong thinking she was overrated last year?? Where on earth am I off base?

so your stance is this....

So she ran a poor race this year. got it

she faced great horses this year and last year in her non BC races. got it

it was correct for me to overrate her going into the BC last year and not bet her. Got it.

You are interesting in your thought process.

The weak classic thing my friend is a little off base, but you don't want to hear much different. Got it?

First Dude, Haynesfield, Paddy O Prado, Etched, Musket Man, fly Down, Espoir City, Pleasant Prince.

That's weak period, end of story. Quality Road very nice horse but huge 10f questions going in. Haynesfield not much off Belmont, Musket Man never wins, First Dude never wins, Fly Down never wins. LAL was a nice 3 yr old in a bad year of 3 yr olds. There was not a heckuva lot in thsi race. The two best horses were noses apart.

i agree, a weaker classic than some. i can't believe they were calling it one of the deepest ever. but then, there's been a lot of hyperbole this year. i guess they think if you say it enough, it'll make it so. if it would generate more interest, it would be great-because it gets tiresome.

I'm sure you've raved about some of the better Classics before. Maybe I just missed that. Maybe you just can't get over the Zenyatta thing you've got going. It's a rather simplistic view.
