You asked for help. Was just trying to help. I will leave the discussion to the experts.

he can't lose in KO over 30 years , just not going to happen , look at the demographics in india and china , ko will outperform most funds doreen in my opinion over a 30 yr time frame that he has

The only stocks we've ever personally invested in were Krispy Kreme Donuts, Dollar Tree, and Ford (last year :) ) They were all hunches, and fortunately they paid off nicely.

I have no idea what KO is.

I manage some money for a charity that I helped found. For total security, I've used (with the approval of the charity board) no load mutual funds. The profit margin has been extremely good. Sometimes you have to opt for caution instead of greed, and there's no guarantee that anything is going to around in 30 years. We've seen enough companies go belly up in the past few years.

KO is the #1 brand in the world , it will be here Doreen , it's not going to make him rich overnight, but ,if he sticks with them for 30 yrs he will do just fine

I don't know what kind of job you have or who you work for, but most bigger companies offer some kind of 401k plan. If your company does any kind of match, even better, free money.

GPK 11-08-2010 07:03 PM

I'd be more interested in talking to someone about experiences with a 529 plan.

My job is horrible, they put $ in, but we cant. And its not much. Should I do a 401k on my own?

If your gambling continues the way it has I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to retire at 30.

I prefer one breakfast, and to be clear... Are you telling me to choke on it, or telling me you have never told me to choke on it?
FYI, on hungry mornings I like to enjoy an omlet, bacon, toast and homefries with onion...

Gales serious question....The HR guy at my job is a tool, I have a bigger education then him. We have a new plan, well new to us called 403-b administered byu Franklin Templeton Financial Advisors. The HR guy is clueless, my question is... Is this $ locked in forever? What If I put a huge part of my pay into it? Can I take loans off of it, or take it out without penelty?

the $ is not locked away forever , but there are costs if you try to borrow against it and early withdrawl penalties

put in what you can afford and just make beleive it's not there , joe they years go by fast and you will need that $ in retirement

You can borrow without penalty to purchase a house. If you withdraw for any reason besides a proven hardship, you will be taxed and penalized.

You can lock in your money and make equivalent to savings interest but the admin fees will eat that up so you benefit in the sense that you save pre tax but inflation will chip at that some.

403b to the max you can take is a no brainer. Pre tax savings.
