She earned a 105 Beyer speed figure for her Vagrancy win...solid...and that is with Eoin Harty training her!!!...(not a huge fan of that guy as a trainer, wish Bin Suroor or Albertarni had her)...doubt they seriously consider running her against the boys in the BC Sprint, but she is pretty fast..

I guess Dave Grenig and the DRF is finally coming around.....

dont know if many know, but godolphin also have UTOPIA who they bought after he won godolphin mile on dubai wc day with a US dirt campaign ahead

Nice write up, but just a couple of points.....

Henny is no longer with Godolphin.

Someone said Discreet Cat didn't beat much in the UAE Derby? No, perhaps that was true in the Areej (I mean Sand Cat? O-kaaaay), but remember Invasor, Flamme de passion and Simpatico Bribon were all beaten. I don't know about anyone here but I'm thrilled with Invasor and can't wait to see this triple crown winner in the Suburban.

Electrocutionist isn't with Darley, he's with Godolphin. Bad to mix the two up.....

Frankie has been working Iffraaj and he's looking like a monster so look for him next week at Ascot.

Afrashad..... now there's one to watch.

Wow, thats a lot of cutting and pasting from godolphin.com....whew!..

As for the Darley/Godolphin difference, there really isn't a difference at all ither tahn entity...you clearly missed the whole point here...technically, I could include Shadwell and the rest of the family here with my setiments....

..the bottomline is that the Oil money is the best money in this game, and for a while I thought it would forge them into dominance - but the reason it did not for sooooo long was because of the defficiencies in their operation...

...Now though, you can clearly see them making more sounder decisions and it is leading to better racing results....the only thing I really disagree with them in terms of their operation is that they are still sending Eoin Harty horses....I think Harty is a horrible horsemen.....

..Coolmore has done more with less ovre the past decade due to the simple fact that they are smarter horsemen and run a far better all-aropund operation....Coolmore doesn't have NEAR the cash to play with the Sheiks when it comes down to it, but they have the top horse evaluator that I've ever seen in Demi O'Byrne ad guys like Pletcher, O'Brien, Biancone, etc. training their horses and those horsemen are far more talented than Ferguson, Bin Suroor, Harty ad guys like that ever thought they could be...

...If Darley hired Buzz Chace and fired Ferguson and hired Baffert, Mandella, Asmussen, etc. and fired Bin Suroor, Harty and crew - Godolphin would probably dominate American racing - and would have probably had a FAR better chance of winning the Derby by now...

Seattleallstar 06-19-2006 09:38 AM

as far as im concerned the only difference between godolphin and darley in my eyes is the color of sillks, and that mostly of their 2 yr olds based in the US, and 3 yr olds pre TC races run under the Darley. Then usually the cream of that crop get to wear the blue, and possibly sent back to Al Quoz for further evaluation of their campaigns.

Im the expert on all things Godolphin, Darley, Shadwell, Gainsborough, Hamdan related topics

Seattleallstar 06-19-2006 09:42 AM

Joel, in reference to the trainer situation. They keep bin Suroor as sort of a figurehead to run their operation, while in fact in most cases Mohammed is the one calling the shots during training, Baffert has even said in one instance that it would be difficult working with the Sheik even if they are friends. David Loder in England has spoken about this the Sheik's give him more rein I should say then they do bin Suroor

oracle80 06-19-2006 09:45 AM

Seattle if you are the expert how did you blow Jazil's talent level so badly?

So lemme get this straight. You tell us all in exact words that if the horse wins the Derby that you will cut your balls off, your exact words, and you liked him as a talented indivual and foresaw his Belmont win?
Wow!!!!!! thats a stretch to me.

Yeah but what about the Seven Stars? No points for the Darley horses.....

Seattleallstar 06-19-2006 09:56 AM

oracle--I like the horse but not enough to fully back and support, I just said he wouldnt win the derby, The Belmont just happened to be his day, maybe now he can mature into a better horse.

In that race I liked

Bob and John, Sunriver,Steppenwolfer,Jazil, Bluegrass Cat in that order

Ask me after Iffraaj and Proclamation run.....

Ashaawes and Jeu do Mot will give me points eventually.

Maybe.

Hope so.

I think that Bill Gates should get into horse racing. We need another owner with DEEP pockets. Plus he is here in the US so that makes it even better.

Cunningham Racing 07-30-2006 12:29 PM

Are there still any non-believers out there? :)

Bernardini is a beast.....might prove to be one of the best horses since Spectacular Bid...he certainly has the ability

sumitas 07-30-2006 12:41 PM

darley is a great operation. their horses are managed conservatively and well. they buy buy buy. they have my respect and admiration.

i still like to see all the big operations get beat however :)

Joel, didn't you get chills yesterday? I honestly was very nervous before the race due to the condition of the track ; many good horses have failed to lift a hoof in the slop. I couldn't believe how easily he was winning - he was in a common gallop as soon as they turned for home. I guess his Beyer and speed fig # won't be good, but I'm sure even those guys that make the figs will understand that this is one time the #s don't tell the full story.

I have no desire to make predictions for his future because I just want to enjoy Bernardini now. I don't claim he's going to win the remainder of his races this year, or that he's going to be HOY or anything like that - that's a lot of "what ifs". Right now, I'm just thrilled.

I do believe that the Sheikhs will run him next year....there's some speculation that he would run under the Godolphin colors and possibly race in Europe. Boy, I hope not; it won't happen, but I'd prefer that he stay with Tom.

Darley is very focused on their US stallion operation. This horse is about as commercial as you can get. The chances he runs next year are very slim.

Yeah, I never get overly exited by isolated performances, but I did find myself overtaken by that effort just because I knew that if Javier actually started riding in the stretch that he would have won by 20-lengths.....It did give me shivers, but then again, this might be the best horse I've ever seen - and that is obviously saying alot...even from a younger fan like me...I am a historian and have studied and seen clips on the sports greatest performers, and I really think we are witnessing something special right now with this horse....he has very few weaknesses...

As a matter of fact, the main thing I would love to see from him is to see how he would react if another horse challenged him in the stretch - but he has never been challenged in the stretch to date...

I would bet anyone that he is a fighter....You can just tell his class by watching his manuerisms....I love this freaking horse :D

As for running him in Europe, I WOULD BE PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is NOT a turf horse and running him on the grass in Europe would be the biggest mistake that opperation could ever make.....I can't really see that happening..

However, if he wins the BC Classic or runs well in that race - I believe that it is pretty safe to say that they will freshen him and run him as a 4YO in the Dubai World Cup......Hell, its all those guys really care about anymore...winning their own super race...

Betsy 07-30-2006 05:31 PM

Ironhorse, the Sheikhs have run Dubai Millenium and Street Cry as four year olds, so why wouldn't they want more fun with Bernardini? Heaven knows they don't need the immediate cash flow that comes from retiring a horse to stud..

Joel, it would piss me off if they sent him to Europe for a couple of reasons. First, he's bred for dirt mostly (although Indy has had some good turf runners) and second, this is what Darley has waited for for years - an American classic winner. They wanted success in the US and they have it; I imagine they are very proud of their horses. Why wouldn't they want Bernardini to (hopefully) clean up some of the most important stakes in the US? Also, I don't see why it's so important for Bernardini to prove himself over turf - if he becomes great on dirt, that's sufficient for me. I hope it's the same for the Sheikhs.

I think he would be a fighter, too, but we may not find out until he faces older horses. I've heard criticism of Bernardini because he's winning so easily......wow, that makes no sense. A really good horse will often win easily-why knock a horse for being talented? I have to admit that I favor all AP Indys; I'm biased, I admit it. That being said, this colt is so darn gorgeous and charismatic; I noticed in the Withers that he floats over the track. What a stride.

I'm just going to enjoy him for right now; no sense worrying about the future. He apparently came out of the Jim Dandy in good shape, which is the most important thing

To answer your question. With all due respect to Dubai Millenium and Street Cry, neither was as accomplished as Bernardini as a 3 year old. The key to what I am saying is that Darley is focused on building their US stallion operation and Bernardini is very commercial. Much more so than Dubai Millenium or Street Cry. Having fun with him will more than likely take a back seat to building Darley. Especially, if he continues running the way he has.

Here Oracle...I thought you'd want to read this agin to refresh tour memory since you claim that i just love these guys and have an agenda.....i called this in May and it is now happening and i am reporting it coming to fruition as it does....

BTW, what was going through your head when Bernardini urinated on your horse at the top of the stretch? :D

...that was unfair....it was like Mohammed Ali fighting Oscar De la Hoya....just two horses in two different classes...
