Anyone want to watch real football, turn on the NFL network right now. Bears vs Packers in 1985. There was like 10 conduct penalties in the first quarter. It is awseome.

Jets had to front him $500k to deal with paternity suits before he went broke. He sounds like he's grown up a little bit though. I wish him well, obviously on the field, but off of it too.

I'm judging by what I've heard and seen from him since the trade. He's either been coached very well or he realizes he's been a dumbass and has to pay the consequences. He didn't run away from any questions, answered all of them about his kids/baby moms, the amount of which I thought was excessive BTW. I know you're happy Chris Henry died, but I don't automatically condemn dudes forever who grow up dirt poor and act foolishly when they first get money. I'd like to think I'd be more responsible if I became a millionaire overnight at 21, but I don't know for sure.

Oh stop. I just don't make excuses for people constantly.

True, but as a lifelong Dolphins' fan I am contractually obligated to bring up 1972 in any such discussion.

I am also obligated to bring up the game in which Marino and the boys absolutely destroyed the vaunted '85 Bears defense.

Not for anything but if they are paying Tomlinson 5 million and change, why didn't they just keep Thomas Jones (I think he was due 5-6 million)? I'm not trying to compare the two career wise, but TJ has been much better as of late. He was also one of the leaders of the team. I know Tomlinson is probably a future hall of famer, but I think they were better off keeping Thomas Jones.

Jones wanted to be a starter more than he wanted to win. That's pretty clear by him going to the Chiefs. He wasn't going to accept less than 15 carries a game. Tomlinson appears more willing to accept a backup role.

MaTH716 03-14-2010 08:38 PM

Joey If you had your choice, who would you rather have next season. Tomlinson or TJ?

It's close, but Tomlinson. You might say I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, but TJ was largely a product of the best run blocking O-Line in the NFL. LDT, meanwhile, ran behind one of the worst. It's a huge difference. Tomlinson's also a much better receiver than TJ is.

Exactly, although on the surface it seems like the role they have envisioned for him is the same as Leon Washington. Assuming Leon's health, it's going to take some creativity to get them all on the field.

MaTH716 03-15-2010 08:46 AM

Fair enough, also I just realized this morning that it's 5 million and change over 2 years (no including any clauses that might be in there). So there is a considerable savings opposed to TJ.
I'll admit, I used to love Tomlinson (especially in my football betting days when he was at TCU). But I lost alot of respect for him that year he sat out with a sprained ankle again the Pats in the AFC title game. While Drew Brees played with some sort of tear inside his knee. I know that I have no idea what the extent of his injury was, but I just thought he came across as being soft and it seems like he was never the same player after that.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-15-2010 09:32 AM

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Complainian Tomlinson to the Jets!!!

The only player in the NFL who cries more than the Jets coach.

dalakhani 03-15-2010 09:50 AM

This move I didn't get. LT is d-o-n-e. Its not like that Charger line can't block. He just has lost too much to get there now. I didn't see the actual terms and I wonder how much is guaranteed.

I think this is a reach but we will see.

They won't make the playoffs...ok..they might, but Sanchez will struggle. Whoever made the comparison between the Ravens of a few years ago and next year's Jets was right on.

Why will he struggle? Because you say so? He already had a 63.0 QB rating and damn near 30 turnovers last season, and we still were two quarters away from the Super Bowl. He improved with every game in the playoffs, and look at the freaking arsenal he has now. Even if you think Sanchez will still be below average, the Ravens never had one tenth of the weapons the Jets have this year. Yeah, "right on." They still have to play the games, but this team is loaded. I'd love to hear who's better (on paper) in the AFC.

herkhorse 04-12-2010 07:17 AM

It will be nice to see Brady & co. third in their division.

Coach Pants 04-12-2010 08:43 AM

Holmes actually hurts their chances. It's not like he's a phenomenal talent...he's a ****** that got lucky when it mattered.

MaTH716 04-12-2010 08:47 AM

I think it's a great move for the Jets. They made a significant upgrade in a position where it was needed. If Sanchez can continue to play the way he did in the playoffs (no reason why he can't), they have a chance to be a special team next year. Although I do think they have to do something about Nick Folk. That one is a definite downgrade.

ddthetide 04-12-2010 10:41 AM

Holmes is to be suspended for the first 4 game and is in the final year of his contract.

Joey..I like the Jets...I really do, but this is the classic "looks like the off season fave on paper" team. I'm not sure when the last 'loaded" team was that won the SB..NE maybe?...

I have heard that GB will play you guys on Thanksgiving night? Sucks because I can't road trip, but what have you heard?

JETS new locker room setup

MaTH716 04-12-2010 11:55 AM

Kinda looks like the same set up the Bengals have.

He had 1,200+ yards receiving last year, what's lucky about that?

What's telling is they didn't make the playoffs.

It's a risky move that could pay dividends but I wouldn't get too excited, Joey.

It's tough for me to blame a WR for a team not making the playoffs, especially when he was Super Bowl MVP the season before. I also don't think it's any more risky than the trade for Braylon, which you liked.

The important thing is surrounding Sanchez with as many weapons as possible, and now he's got three receivers who are capable of 1,000-yard seasons and we gave up very little to get them. That's good enough for me.

I'm already excited about this team, the Holmes addition was just icing on the cake. I also don't understand how him being in the last year of his deal is a negative. There may be a lockout in '11, and to me it's better to have risky players who are playing for new contracts than ones who have a ton of guaranteed money already.
