Asmussen winning the Eclipse for Trainer of the Year is an example what's wrong with this sport - they're rewarding the cheaters. This has me a little upset  The other trainers were so much more worthy.

I know that not everyone shares my view but I'm bummed Einstein didn't win...

DerbyCat 01-18-2010 08:58 PM

Also, for those of you that were watching, how many of you wanted to yell at Jess Jackson, "SHUT THE F*CK UP!!!"

And I really want to like Jess cause I love his horse but jeez... just take your award, say thank you and go back to your table.

Why are the cheaters even eligible?

The Indomitable DrugS 01-18-2010 08:59 PM

More worthy based on what?

Asmussen was about a 1-to-5,000 favorite to win that award based on how the voters have historically voted in that category.

I don't know, classier people, they win without cheating... I'm just not a fan of Asmussen and trainers like him... but that's just my opinion.

Duvalier 01-18-2010 09:02 PM

How many votes did Ness get?

Asmussen is the single nicest trainer I've ever talked to in terms of being pleasant and engaging.

But yeah, he's been caught cheating before. Not like that was going to matter enough to make the vote close.

My comment wasn't about "deserving", I just wanted Einstein to win, Gio Ponti already had one Eclipse, I had hoped that Einstein could get one as well.

Jeff Mullins is a really nice guy.

Nice has nothing to do with it though, does it?

Same here. I don't know who deserves it... I just wanted Einstein to win. Sentimental favorite.

Leparoux wins...

33% Wins and 66% ITM the Eclipse would have to go to Ness.

ninetoone 01-18-2010 09:21 PM

Dominguez got screwed.

my miss storm cat 01-18-2010 09:21 PM

Congrats to whoever wins...

They both deserve it. :tro:

philcski 01-18-2010 09:25 PM

Rachel!!!

hockey2315 01-18-2010 09:25 PM

Not that it matters. . . but justice is served.

kgar311 01-18-2010 09:25 PM

Yeah ... Steph Beattie's string of 4 straight years with a 30%+ win rate came to an end.

The Indomitable DrugS 01-18-2010 09:26 PM

I take it RA won.

Amen. Zenyatta was brilliant no doubt, but when you can't separate 3 of Rachel's races from each other and Zenyatta only has one I think it's a no brainer.

GenuineRisk 01-18-2010 09:30 PM

Aww... this is why I hate award shows. I feel bad for the losers. Buck up, Mosses. She'll still get in the Hall of Fame the first year she's eligible.

Pretty classy speech by Jackson, all things considered.

Whoa- way to cut away there the first second you could, ESPN News.

The Indomitable DrugS 01-18-2010 09:31 PM

Gio Ponti was robbed.

TouchOfGrey 01-18-2010 09:32 PM

Vote total:

Rachel Alexandra 130
Zenyatta 99

DerbyCat 01-18-2010 09:32 PM

Nice win by Rachel... she was deserving.

Mosses were bitter, you could easily tell by the looks on their faces they thought they were robbed. Lesson learned. They can only blame themselves for her campaign

I'm shocked by the margin because when Zenyatta won the Classic I thought for sure it was a slam dunk for her.

I thought it would have been a lot closer too.

Honestly, how can you not be a little bitter or disappointed? Both were magnificent this year and made history.

DerbyCat 01-18-2010 09:37 PM

Mosses post ceremony interview makes it sound like they're gunning for Rachel... the match race has to be a race with the boys, doesn't it?

First Giacomo - then Bernardini - now Gio Ponti.

The Anti-Italian name bias strikes again.

How about showing a little class, I know nobody likes Jess on this board but I can guarantee you he would of at least clapped and shown good sportsmanship if Zenyatta won, instead of just sitting there looking shocked and bitter. It really wasnt that much of a shocker
