I suppose you can come up with these types of examples all day. I guess what I'm trying to say, in a nutshell, is that people want to see their opinions validated -- and awards recognizing a horse as "the best" provide this. The Personal Ensign camp was probably a bit miffed when she didn't bring home the hardware.

Years from now, when people discuss the 2009 Horse of the Year. The only debate/arguement that will/should go on, is why Zenyatta and Rachael Alexandra didn't race each other. As fans of the sport, we are the only ones that got screwed here, reguardless of who wins the award. I'm not going to lose any sleep over who wins it. All I know is that we as fans all got screwed and the sport really got screwed out of seeing 2 incredible horses race each other in most likely their last racing campaigns.
Granted both Mr. Moss and Mr. Jackson raced their fillies against the boys in spots where many owners might have passed, but shame on them both and the NTRA for not coming up with the race that the entire world would have wanted to see. So the bottom line for me is who really gives a damn about an award that is going to go to an owner that pretty much has it all already and that screwed me and the rest of the racing fans around the world.

i have to agree 100%. who cares, its a bunch of people voting. it will be forgotten a day later. a race where both were entered would of been racing history. those awards are given by people that THINK they matter.

You keep posting. You keep saying the same thing over and over. You don't care. You don't care. You don't care. We get it. Stop trying to convince everyone else not to care. You are putting so much energy into trying to convert others into not caring that, guess what, you care. It bothers you so much that others care, it is driving you nuts. You keep revisiting the thread, thinking "I don't believe these idiots care! Don't they get it? I certainly don't, and I don't care to. I'm going to post the fact that I don't care one more time in hopes that someone is convinced not to care based solely on the fact that I don't."

You care A LOT about people caring. Just admit it (though you probably don't care to).

Take care now!

sure they do. this is just another way of posing the 'who's better' question while giving reasons why the horse you prefer should win the award. it really has nothing to do with the award itself.

i just think down the road the discussion will turn to their individual efforts. the lack of this award for one won't mean much years from now. it certainly won't affect anyone here regardless of who wins.
