As a typical democrat in Marin County i find it quite interesting on the constant attacks from the Far Right. Here one is kind of isolated amongst 90% or more democrats so it is also easy to hide within that large majority. This Board does have a very vocal Republican slant which is just fine. No problems with that. But, i find it also interesting the name calling and when on the occassion that the Far Right is called out on something the typical response is to step up their attacks even more. The previous administration was one of arrogance and no compromise. Obama was elected with a huge majority and is trying to push thru an aggressive legislation. I think Obama has done a good job of listening to others and even appointing a few Republicans to his administration. The re-election of Bernanke was quite a surprise actually.

Anyway, my feeling is why do i want to be part of a party with the Religious Right in it.... I can flippantly say we suffered with 8 years of people like VP Dick and now the Republicans can see what it felt like now that Obama is in power. In reality, everything right now is talk and until legislation is passed everyone needs to calm down a little.

While I dont agree with Ted Kennedy's views, he dedicated his life to serve the people and should be respected for that. Especially in death, which was only like 48 hours ago.

BUT.. that crap the Mass democrats did when Romney was Gov & Kerry was running for prez was disgusting to the core. and if they change the law to suit them they should all go to jail.

This just isnt true Paul. 47% of the countries voters voted against him. Because of the nuances of the electoral college it may have seemed like he won easily but the fact is that 6% is hardly a huge margin. I find it hard to believe that Democrats can say that this administration is not one of arrogance and non compromise. What exactly have they compromised on? Obama has hardly carried out any of what he said he would in terms of change in regards to politics. His tone setting "I won" comment hasnt been forgotten and has led to his energizing the opposing party. How quickly we all forget that what the right has been doing is directly out of the left's anti-Bush playbook.

As for the boards right slant I believe there are just as many democrats here than Republicans. There certainly were a whole lot more left leaning posts in the halcyon days early in the post election glow. I respect the views of many of the lefties here like BWS, GbBob, Dala, etc. Debating the topics is great. But it seems as though the left seems to take the knocks on their guy or his mistakes personally. And that is rarely the intent. Riot is another story all togther....

This is perhaps the biggest piece of legislature than will ever be passed since it not only consumes so much of the economy but because it will tangibly touch every person in the country
And it will be passed. Thanks to the GOP refusing to participate at all, and spreading lies and disinformation about it, it will be a strictly Democratic production, passing whatever the Dems want. Thanks, GOP.

Healthcare reform is NOT a bad thing. Doing it the Obama/Pelosi way is. If ever there was a bill that needed give and take it is this one.
Gee, you think? What is the GOP doing about that? Nothing. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyoming, on the "Gang of Six" leadership panel of Senate Dems-Rep that are supposed to be forming a compromise consensus on healthcare reform, finally admits last week to a town hall in his state that he has no intent to compromise on anything, his only purpose is to block any healthcare reform.

Senator Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, also on that committee, speaks out of both sides of his mouth, publically saying one thing, but then outright lies at one of his town hall meetings that his constituents should fear "death panels".

Boy, these guys hate it when they are caught out lying by the ubiquitous camera phone.

The GOP has become a complete embarassment, an insult to the positions of government responsibilty they were elected to, and to their constituents.

Show something that indicates Sarah Palin has an IQ above 70, and I'll take it back. Her involvement in politics appears quite dead. Thank god.

I don't want you to take it back. The point of my post was Bob thought Chuck called people (maybe even you) a moron and idiot and I showed it was the other Republican (you) that did it. Quite repetitively as well.

I think the GOP is simply continuing to live what the country has lived the past 8 years. It became acceptable to overtly lie, deny truth or fact, and, to quote Cheney, say "So what?" to what the public wants, to any opposition or question. I've never seen so many overt, public lies as with healthcare reform, and so many people believe them.

The GOP didn't used to be like this. GOP today keeps quoting Reagan. Reagan would turn over in his grave to see this party's behaviour today.

The majority of Americans voted for Obama, they want out of Iraq, they want healthcare reform, they want government involvement in trying to end the recession, not government detachment. I didn't want Hilary, but there was no way in hell I could vote for a ticket with Sarah Palin on it, so Obama was the only choice for me.

I do want strong, aggressive healthcare reform. It's not American or patriotic to ignore fellow Americans in need. It's not American to be selfish, and care only about one's self, the "I got mine, screw you" attitude. The GOP promised healtcare reform, but ignored it completely the last eight years. Now they are refusing to cooperate or compromise or bring anything to the table at all, at this point.

The people used to the last eight years simply don't seem able to get beyond the fact they lost, overwhelmingly. They are like children throwing tantrums, sitting down, refusing to cooperate. The GOP probably won't recover more than 20 seats in 2010 at this rate. Historically the opposition party in any first election post-Presidential easily regains 20-40 seats in the Legislature. The GOP lack of participation in healthcare reform will do them in. They are loud, but they are the minority, and they are completely disorganized. My local GOP meetings have been nothing but whining and complaint since the election. Complete waste of time.

That in the special state election just held in Kentucky (state level), that a Republican lost to a Dem in an overwhelmingly strong Republican district hasn't been lost on the State GOP pundits. They are already scrambling (although I was personally quite glad the GOP candidate was defeated in favor of a Dem favorable to slots for horse racing)

GOP has put out 800+ pieces of legislation with respect to biparisan reform, only to have it stuffed down their throats by the Dems. Piss-poor if you ask me!

News to me. Got any reference on that? I've got letters here from both my Republican state Senators (Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning) and all they talk about is Patient's Choice Act S.1099. by Colburn and Burr. That bill is woefully inadequate IMO.

Bunning then spends a paragraph admitting no bill is finalized yet, so we don't know what will be in it until September, but then he creates a straw man, he makes up some possible things he has "serious concerns" about, and then disses them. Don't lie to me, Senator.

OK they may want health care reform but not this plan

SCOTT RASMUSSEN, RASMUSSEN REPORTS: Well, 43 percent favor the plan, 53 percent are opposed. That hasn't changed much during the month of August. The really bad news for the White House, the people who are feeling strongly about this bill are far more likely to be opposed -- 43 percent of Americans strongly oppose it, just 23 percent strongly support it.

As always thanks for the meatball....

RNC Chairman Michael Steele .....2 days ago How many diff plans are the Dems floating for confusions sake?

Danzig 08-28-2009 12:59 PM

i posted a link in the cash for clunkers thread to a factcheck article about obama's statements that 'if you like your coverage, you can keep it'....the article said it may not be so. but not a peep from the lefties on here. the hell with the details, full speed ahead.

Not a "lefty", but I read it. Just more speculation about what could, maybe, if, possibly, happen sometime in the future far, far away (if we all totally lost control of our minds and the government turned into a dictatorship without separate exective, judicial, and legislative branches to keep control on each other, and we got rid of elections and our democratic process)

Glenn Beck also said this week that Americorp is really Obama's jack-booted youth military squad. He's losing his mind on TV, I think.

Yawn.

Two.

You mean, what Steele said after he stuttered and bought time when asked if the GOP had a health plan, and he said they don't (they do, but he is apparently unawares), and he pulls this magical figure of 800 amendments to various Democratic bills (he never said health reform) out of his azz?

Hey, Steele is in enough trouble today, because the RNC just released a push poll spreading more healthcare reform scares and lies.

:D You're asking me for the link to something YOU posted? :p

What's the matter - did you not really read it before you posted it?

Here's a hint for you: google "Michael Steele 800" and you'll probably find many transcripts of the conversation you quoted here ;)
