I bet VH and am not too confident he wil stay up.

TheSpyder 08-29-2009 04:19 PM

No way. Garcia even got off him knowing there won't be any picture today. Too bad, I had him too.

Yeah it's too bad, he would have won IMO, he wasn't letting Candyman go by without a fight. It was the right call for a change by these stewards. Trust me I've been on the wrong end of many of their calls, this one was a good call.

it is to bad he couldn't keep a straight path. vh was going to win this if he wouldn't have came over. he wasn't letting him by even by the look of the head on

herkhorse 08-29-2009 04:37 PM

I think Summer Bird wins the Travers, and Tim Ice sits in w/ Byk for the rest of the meet.

I bet Kent D gives him a horrible ride...;)

CSC 08-29-2009 04:53 PM

He was much the best...regardless of who rode him today.

pdrift1 08-29-2009 04:54 PM

summer bird nice win. and looking good !!!!! well RA looks real good after this:)

To me the Travers this year is: Can Quality Road handle the stretch-out off little races? And if not, who can jump-up? On Beyers, Summer Bird and Kensei fit the jump-up model. But I don't know if Kensei wants 10 furlongs with his A-game, and Summer Bird, though a useful horse, would have been fourth in the Belmont if it were at 10 furlongs. And in the Haskell, he beat-out Munnings who was obviously out of his comfort zone.

So, while both Summer Bird and Kensei could win, I can't get too excited about betting either of them at shorter prices. And Quality Road in my opinion is one of the most talented horses we've seen in a while, but he's really up against it today.

So, why not take a stab and have some fun? I'm not certainly not taking out a loan against my dog, but he'll be a price on a crazy, wet day.

Enjoy everyone!

Good call Travis on the 2nd place finisher, hope u nailed the exacta.

King Glorious 08-29-2009 04:56 PM

I wonder how many people had posts typed out about how Kent was riding a horrible race when he was in front of Quality Road so early. About how he was moving to early, etc. He was a dominant winner. He's the champion 3yo colt.

Don't you have to have a winner and second place finisher to have the exacta?

Travis Stone 08-29-2009 04:59 PM

If there's a LA Downs God, he'll let Summer Bird come out of this race a-okay and come here and show our fans how good he is in the Super Derby.

By the way, that was a good call on Hold Me Back. I couldn't give him a chance even now, knowing he just ran second.

I think he'd have to be at the Super Derby.

He's showing some verstility also, he's not just a stone cold closer as some mistakeningly think he is, with blinkers it should be no surprise he has more early speed than most give him credit for. That brings me back to a point I have been trying to make over and over after his Belmont win, he COULD HAVE WON by more if Kent D wanted him closer. Some just don't want to see that and keep on insisting that MTB was the best horse in the Belmont but that is erroneous slanted type of thinking if you ask me.

You would think that would be the logical next step.

So much for Kensai/Quality Road's championship hopes. Thank God.

He won races with the worst non-bug rider in America, he basically had no rider for his first 5 races

We're a bit tight to the Travers, but by design because it's a quiet weekend and we've never really battled for Travers horses. Figures, we make the call and now this... but it's home for Dr. J and Tim Ice, so we'll see.

Amen. I do think QR is a good horse. But he was not given a fair chance to do his best today. I could never believe the people that have been saying he's the best we've seen in awhile. I guess it depends on how awhile is defined because I don't think he was better than Big Brown last year or Curlin the year before or Bernardini the year before that or Afleet Alex the year before that or Smarty Jones the year before that.

I don't think they are going to the BC so it might be a good reason to send him down there?

Thing is, it might be tight for the Super Derby but I don't think he has to be 100% to beat what will be there or maybe not even 90% and it would give him plenty of time to recover before the BC.

That is what happens when owners pick races and trainers have to try to figure out how to get them there.

Chris Rosier? In all credit to Kent I think he rode him well here, he knew he had the best horse and just made sure he no one snuck away on him and thus he made an early move, there were no confirmed closers in this field so once he made the lead in the stretch it was just a matter of him not standing up at the 1/16th pole.

Cannon Shell 08-29-2009 05:08 PM

I'd take him in the Gold Cup against the opt 75 claimers that make up the older horse division.

Rosier. Kent rode him like he had the best horse, which he did.

pdrift1 08-29-2009 05:12 PM

trying not to get ahead of myself. sloppy track today . RA still has to win the woodward which anything can happen but her getting beaten by this group of older seems impossible as great as she is. you have to just think the BC needs a boot in azz that the BCC is not being run on dirt to solidify RA as one of the greatest

BTW, I usually don't bet large win bets unless I am feeling really good about my chances, the other big win bet I remember making was coincidentally in the slop also on Empire Maker in the Belmont, he was 2nd choice to Funny Cide. In both cases I believed they were the better horses and luckily it worked out both times.

Anyone who listens to that stuff deserves to lose their money. Watchmaker was saying the same thing, that he was concerned about how well he's trained for this. These guys are just giving their opinions and I've always believed that people who rely on the opinions of others and can't trust their own opinions, especially if they've been at it awhile, deserve to lose.

I don't know why he would report that, I heard the opposite. That reminds me of the time when there were reports on High Chaparral looking awful the week of the BC(his 2nd) in which he ran great. Sometimes it's hard to take anything at face value and you just have to do your own work and analysis.
