Very cute dog pictures :) Love GSP. And one of the best assistance dogs I ever knew was a Corgi - terrific dog.

Here are some links to videos where dogs are actually showing some movement(not on a leash.) Tried to put the breeds people have talked about on here. Sorry, couldn't get ones for J.R. Terriers, or Rat Terriers. They are both called foundation stock breeds(LOL.) http://www.akc.org/breeds/fss_breeds.cfm

T'was.

I was rooting for the bulldog, knowing damn well he had no shot of winning.

We only got one hour too. They are replaying the three hours from last night this morning sometime around 10ish (I think).

Danzig 02-10-2009 07:44 AM

cnbc carried the rest of the night.

SCUDSBROTHER 02-10-2009 12:21 PM

You didn't miss much. They picked some big gray donkey-looking hound, and then 3 all-black dogs in a row.

timmgirvan 02-10-2009 12:34 PM

Tonite's when they show THE REAL DOGS!:D

They changed the schedule. Herding group was last night. Puli won. Working group moved from Monday to tonight.

Any foal yet from your yardsale pony?

paisjpq 02-10-2009 04:32 PM

Well isn't that a kick in the crotch.

No baby yet, she started to bag up around the 1st, I'd say she has another week to two weeks.

SCUDSBROTHER 02-10-2009 06:30 PM

What's amazing is there is a guy judging the Toy group tonite that has picked the same Havanese Dog (as best of the Toy Group) three times in the last year. Guess what just happened? The dog didn't win his own damn breed today. That's a crusher. I mean that dog was probably gunna win the toy group, and he couldn't get by the breed judge. Atleast the top Min Pin did win his breed judging. This guy did pick him as best of toy group at a show before, and he picked him 3rd in another show. I think he has a shot at a 3rd, or 4th. Be nice to atleast get selected through that 1st cut they make. I think he will take a poofy as 1st place though.

4-1 he stops running to eat food left by another handler(2008.)

6-5 he starts barking at someone in the crowd(2007.)

Danzig 02-10-2009 06:36 PM

i wonder how those judges really decide? i mean, c'mon-they really have enough noticable differences to say dog #41 is better than the other 70 in the breed?

i never saw a guy/dog get kicked out due to 'conflict of interest', and then they had two in one group last night.

AeWingnut 02-10-2009 06:52 PM

I noticed the test tube Saluki got almost zero applause

yet the news report I read was glowing about how perfect the dog was

Well, they seem to often go by how well the dogs have done in the past. A lot of times you'll hear him say this dog here was the 1st or 2nd highest rated dog in the country last year(period.) O.K.,well that's gunna be a pretty solid favorite to win their group. As far as the final ring goes(for best in show,) I have no idea how they decide that one. As far as the breed judging goes, there is usually a dog from the breed that is considered tops that year(almost always wins the breed when he shows up.) They usually do pick that dog in the breed judging at Westminster. For instance, the big favorites to win best of breed for the Min Pin and the Affenpincher both did win their best in breeds. It is really odd that the Favorite Havenese wasn't selected best in breed. Like I said, he has atleast 3 best in Toy Group Wins(that means he was not only considered best Havenese in the 3 shows, but best Toy Group Dog in those shows.) That means the judge thought he fit the description of his breed better than the other toy dogs fit the description of their breeds. So, it's very odd that someone thought there was a better Havenese dog there today.

Most of the judges have judged these same dogs at one time or another or at least know who they are (usually by the handler at the end of the leash).

My friend handles some of the top Am Staffs in the country however she did not show any at Westminster this year because the judge is an old client and they have co-owned or bred dogs in the past. This would have been a conflict of interest. I don't off hand know what the deal was last night.
