Context is everything and in voting for year end awards (just like in the races) they horses don't have to beat historical standards, just the immediate competition. Charismatic won 2/3 of the TC and so did Spectacular Bid and Native Dancer...so?

it's no a pro or anti only group is it? there are shades of grey you know, especially where big brown is concerned.
and being the best of last years lot isn't exactly saying a bunch.

It's like how some people think Charismatic and War Emblem are special because they won 2/3 of the TC while a horse like Easy Goer "couldn't". Circumstances often get overlooked and horses get their values thrown out of whack because people just look at the end results instead of what led to those results.

good post. you think you could send it to jess jackson?

Once I read the stuff he said about Curlin and how he's one of the best of the last 100 years and all that stuff about him adding to the gene pool.......I realized Jackson is too far gone. He's almost as far out there as Roller Doc is. Almost.

How about the horse winning the eclipse this year that didn't win a grade 1 in this country!

Maybe, but still, Benny winning the eclipse is a joke.

And yeah, I know, it was a really weird year for the division with each contender having huge holes in their accomplishments.

Thats a ploy. They thought that they could make a mint off a son of Lucky Lionel at stud. He was not getting much attention. In fact his being the champ might make him worth more not less at stud.
He was not being well recieved. In fact they have announced that the 2010 Golden Shaheen is the goal, so he wont be heading back to the stud (barring injury) until 2011.

well, of course it is. i won't be surprised if more than BtheB and tiago come back-it's going to be a rough year for breeders. lot of mares being left open, lot less studs. hell, curlin ought to come back and threepeat as hoy-just think of the accolades everyone (jess jackson) would bestow on him then!! it would be awesome....lol

seriously, ought to be better racing for a while, a lot less horses moving to retirement. maybe this years derby winner will actually run next year.

To be mentioned in the same sentence as the two time HOY owner is quite an honor.
