With respect and affection, I'm thinking Imbongi can beat Traffic Boy home.

My sentimental favorite in that one is Blue Ksar who will probably be last. :D

I didn't realize Seihali was a 10 year old! He wins one a year at NaS, doesn't he?

PatCummings 02-17-2009 12:30 PM

I don't think that Seihali raced since the 2007 DWC, so he didn't win one last year. But he is a real veteran.

I'm on the Imbongi bus again!

You're right... I don't know why, thought he had won one last year.

Wonder if he was hurt in this one (?). I'd forgotten he went to HK!

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2007&raceno=08

Glad we're on the same bus. Go, Imbongi!

Since you're over there (and not to bug you or anything - believe me, am showing some restraint cause my real list has about 20 horses and I usually ask people to wave and jump up and down and send imaginary baskets of smoochies and peppermints :D ) if you ever happen to see Bonecrusher please send my regards (ie blow a kiss for me. When no one is looking, of course!). He was just about last back in December, no idea if he's still running, hurt, retired.

Nice horse with a big heart. Hope he's okay. :)

We've gone through this before, mmsc......

Just because you have several restraining orders currently standing on trainers, jockeys and horses, it doesn't mean that you can send someone else to do the dirty work for you :p

Found this on Racing post...

Poor guy.

At least he's alive...

Carnival winner Silver Mist ruled out for season
By Jason Ford7.19PM 17 FEB 2009

SILVER MIST, winner of a 71/2f turf handicap on the opening night of the Dubai Carnival before following up in style by winning the Group 3 Al Rashidiya over 1m1f, also on grass, will miss the rest of the campaign and probably year.

The son of Western Winter fractured a cannon bone when working at Nad Al Sheba this week, according to his trainer Mike De Kock: "Obviously it is very unfortunate and a great shame as he has arguably been our star so far, but he has fractured a cannon bone and there is no speedy solution. He will be sidelined, I would imagine, for the rest of the year but, all being well, will be back for next year's carnival."

A useful performer in South Africa for former trainer, Englishman Joey Ramsden, he was one of the new additions to a powerful De Kock team. World Cup night and the Dubai Duty Free, probably via Super Thursday, had appeared on the cards after his Al Rashidiya win. That form was given a big boost last week by the comfortable victory of Kirklees, third to Silver Mist, in a valuable handicap for Godolphin.

HERE COMES THE QUEEN :)

jaripeo 02-18-2009 09:59 PM

How I see the races?....

Satish Seemar has an interesting runner from Brazil (Team Victory) and although, we know little about him, there are far worse each punts.

It looks hard to look past Stubbs Art third in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas in 2008. Admittedly, his form tailed off towards the end of the season but his trainer is well known for getting horses back to their brilliant best and so a big run is expected

A 4lb rise and top weight may not be enough to stop Asset who won quite impressively for the first time in almost two years the last day. He is weighted to confirm form with Contest who he had in behind that day and plus Warsaw has since come out and franked the form of that race.

Summit Surge commands plenty of respect and it would be great to see an Irish winner in a race of this significance over there. The trip is possibly on the short side but as was said before any horse that finishes second in the Irish Champion Stakes is a fair animal. Gladiatorus looks best of the locals.

Rocks Off for Mike De Kock was champion 2yo in his home country last year but he dosen't appear to be much of a star round Nad Al Sheba. But this is a serious drop in company and he will definitely be in the shake up.

Again a difficult race but this track is nearly tailor made for Young Mick and he has run very well here already. The long straight suits his style of running and these races are normally set up for the closers. Waldvogel is very interesting for Luca Cumani and Johnny Murtagh and its very difficult to gauge how good he actually is. He may well be a blot on the handicap but his price will still be a bit short. Another thing that catches the eye is the fact that Ryan Moore rides for David Elsworth when normally he would be assiociated with Luca Cumani so the betting will be informative as regards Classic Punch's chances. Desert Links has great form back home but again, the trainer dip in form is off putting. Sanbuch another with a decent chance.

Good stuff Jaripeo...

Another exciting two day stint. Good luck all!

Obviously Jay Peg isn't entered but this was on the HKJC site, nothing about him anywhere else. Anyone know what the "training setback" is about? Thanks.

Weichong Marwing cancels trip to Dubai

19 February 2009

It was previously announced that Club Jockey Weichong Marwing would be absent from Hong Kong so as to partner JAY PEG in the Al Fahidi Fort (Group 2) to be conducted at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse tonight. Jockey Marwing has advised Management that due to a training setback JAY PEG did not accept for this race and accordingly he did not travel to Dubai.

Getting caught up... what happened with Black Emblem today and is Ekhtiaar okay?

PatCummings 02-21-2009 08:28 AM

Terry Spargo said Black Emblem bled and the international feed's host, Richard Hoiles, indicated that Ekhtiaar broke down...which I believe is the first break down, during a race, of the entire racing season at Nad al Sheba

DRC...

Saturday Gallops - February 22, 2009

With under a fortnight to Super Thursday and just over a month to the Dubai World Cup meeting, big night contenders are arriving at Nad Al Sheba and Japan’s Dubai Duty Free hopeful Vodka was on the Nad Al Sheba dirt track this morning – walking one circuit before cantering a second.

Fourth in the race last year, she could have a prep race on Super Thursday (March 5th) this time.

Luca Cumani’s Purple Moon is aiming at the Dubai Sheema Classic and, at this stage that 2400m Group 1, like the Dubai Duty Free on turf, is shaping up to be the race of the night.

The trainer’s daughter, Francesca, was aboard Purple Moon who worked alongside previous Dubai International Racing Carnival Presvis under Ryan Moore.

Mike De Kock’s Eagle Mountain could be one of Purple Moon’s opponents on that night and he was spotted about an hour later, as was Dubai Duty Free likely Archipenko who was third in the 1777m Group 1 last year.

Earlier, Mick Channon’s Youmzain, set to contest his third Dubai Sheema Classic in which he was third in 2007 and fifth last year, worked on the turf under Richard Hills.

Thick fog had cleared just in time and Channon was happy with his charge: “He has gone well and likes it here. This is his third visit and we know he likes the conditions. Luck in running is a big thing in those races but he is in good form and we hope to have him spot on for the end of March.”

Richard Hills later jumped on Doug Watson’s Kalahari Gold, a new recruit for His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who worked well alone on the dirt, as did Mutamarres under Gaven Birrer.

Fernando Jara on Merchant Marine also worked in company with the Chris Avery-ridden World Ruler.

Satish Seemar was another visitor and Richard Mullen was in the saddle on Ever Loved, fourth in the UAE 1000 Guineas on her latest start.

NO MIDSHIPMAN NEXT THURSDAY :(

jaripeo 03-01-2009 08:36 PM

FROM SAH RACING...

DUBAI'S SUPER THURSDAY APPROACHES
With only next week’s Super Thursday meeting, the dress rehearsal for Dubai World Cup night left before the big night itself, it was not surprising Nad Al Sheba was a lot quieter than normal for a Saturday morning.
However, those who did drag themselves out of bed were able to see Richard Hills put Dubai Sheema Classic hopeful Youmzain (pictured) through his paces on the turf. He may run on Thursday, as could Dubai Duty Free aspirant Vodka who was also spotted on the track.
Valedictum, with a 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival win to his name already, could fly the Australian flag both on Thursday and the big night, while Saudi Arabia’s Big City Man is another who could be seen on both nights. Both were out for exercise.
Apart from that handful, it was mainly horses from the stables of South African trainers Mike De Kock and Herman Brown in action and Johnny Murtagh was on De Kock’s Asiatic Boy who will bid to go one better than his second in last year’s Dubai World Cup.
Murtagh also rode Honour Devil, another Dubai World Cup hopeful, as well as Imbongi who worked with Dubai Sheema Classic probable Eagle Mountain on the turf.
Ryan Moore handled Brown’s King’s Gambit who also utilised the grass, while the same trainer’s Redding Colliery, a UAE Derby contender, worked well on the dirt, with this striking grey son of Mineshaft appearing to be thriving at the right time.

From Racing Post.....

Kirklees leads Godolphin team for Super Thursday By Jason Ford12.37PM 2 MAR 2009
THURSDAY'S final meeting of the 2009 Dubai Carnival, Super Thursday, is the penultimate ever meeting to be staged at Nad Al Sheba and features the Group 2 concluding round of the Maktoum Challenge, a recognised Dubai World Cup trial over the same 1m2f on dirt course and distance as the $6million climax to the seaon at the end of March.

Saeed Bin Suroor has won this race on three occasions with subsequent World Cup winners (Dubai Millennium, Electrocutionist and Street Cry) and is looking for a clean sweep in this year's Maktoum Challenge having won the first two rounds with My Indy. However, that horse does not feature among the 27 entries and Bin Suroor looks set to rely on Kirklees, a carnival turf winner who is his only entry in the race.

His opposition is headed by last year's Word Cup runner-up, Asiatic Boy who will again bid to become the first UAE Derby winner to land a World Cup at the end of the month. Beaten in Maktoum Challnege II on his reappearance, trainer Mike De Kock has been bringing him along slowly to peak in just over three weeks time and he is sure to run a big race.

Just in front of him last time was Happy Boy, now trained by Mubarak Bin Shafya and he should run another big race.

Ralph Beckett's Muhannak, winner of the Breeders' Cup Marathon, would be an interesting contender on Thursday and stable companion Without A Prayer is also entered.

The whole night, apart from the inaugural running of the Meydan Classic, is a dress rehearsal for World Cup night and, the day after Midshipman was ruled out for the forseeable future, Bin Suroor only has Jose Adan entered in the Al Bastakiya, over the same 1m 1f dirt trip as the UAE Derby.

Jerry Barton won this in 2004 with Petit Paris and the same silks were carried to victory in 2006 by Simpatico Bribon and Barton's Naval Officer is an intersting recruit from France in a race 11 are entered but only four trainers set to be represented.

The two turf features look particulaly strong with 37 entered in the Group 2 Jebel Hatta, the prep race for the 1m 1f Dubai Duty Free. Last year's winner of that race Jay Peg heads the weights along with similarly Group 1-penalised stable companion Kings Gambit and De Kock's Russian Sage.

Mubarak Bin Shafya's Gladiatorus is two from two this season, while Japan's Vodka was a close fourth in the Duty Free last year. Balius is a fascinating new recruit for Abdulla Bin Huzaim; Kirklees is also entered in this and Valedictum has already won for Australia. With Stubbs Art also a posible for De Kock, this will surely be the race of the season to date.

Kings Gambit is also entered in the Group 2 Dubai City of Gold, the trial for the 1m 4f Sheema Classic, as well as Group 1 winnning stablemate Desert Links and Germany's Quijano, who will alos carry a Group 1 penalty.

Luca Cumani's Purple Moon, Balius and De Kock's pair of Front House and Macarthur, as well as George Margarson's Young Mick are others likely to take their chance.

Mick De Kock: strong list of entries

PICTURE: Edward Whitaker Last year's UAE Derby winner Honour Devil will bid to redeem his reputation in the Group 3 Burj Nahaar, the mile race stable companion Asiatic Boy was beaten in last year in his prep for the World Cup. Trainer Mike De Kock also has Lucky Find in this race.

Jalil, who won the Maktoum Challenge III for Bin Suroor last year, will have his second start for Mubarak Bin Shafya.

The 6f Mahab Al Shimaal, the dirt sprint prep for the Golden Shaheen, looks set to see the return to action of Godolphin's Diabolical, narrowly touched off at the Breeders' Cup. Stable companion and new recruit Gayego, Jerry Barton's Big City Man and Barbecue Eddie, fourth in the Golden Shaheen on the big night last year, are other interesting contenders.

The Meydan Classic, a 7½f turf race for three-year-olds is a new addition and 19 are entered, including Bin Suroor's City Style and De Kock's Rocks Off, Champion Juvenile in South Africa last year.
