See if you can follow this....comparing Obama's use of religion (in many cases defending himself against attacks by right wing wackos that he's a Islamic terrorist etc) to the Christian conservative rantings of the likes of Pat Robertson, Falwell etc. is void of reason. The folks I campaign against want to dictate who you can love, how you can love them and where you can love them. They want to invoke their "Christian" (read fanatical fundamentalism) values on all of us. These are the folks who picket at the funerals of American servicemen and women holding signs saying those brave defenders of our freedoms are burning in hell cause they died in the defense of a free society that allows folks to dare love the "wrong person". They want to control what you can watch on TV and at the movies, they aren't real fond of folks of color, and would prefer women to be barefoot and pregnant. Sure, I'm talking now about the radical religious right but far too many so-called "compassionate conservatives" and "mainstream" Christian folks drink the Koolade! Timm obviously isn't a fanatic (even though I admit enjoying pulling his chain still), but he falls into the trap of defending the mindset...his fanatical (and yes, that word applies here) hatred of Obama is troubling to me, calling the President-elect names before he takes office, attacking his every move before allowing him the opportunity to govern is indicative of the politics of fear and hatred that the religious (far) right is known for...McCain and Palin briefly exhibited this idiocy before McCain listened to the angels of his better nature and backed off...a move that may have cost him some votes among the fundamentalists but gained back a lot of the respect that folks like me have for him. I don't hate McCain or Palin, I admire them for their service and wish them well but I'm not hearing similar attitudes from their supporters...especially those who intertwine their religious beliefs with politics!

Somer: there is SO much wrong with your post....1) you know damn well Falwell and Robertson don't speak for the majority of conservatives 2) Even worse, you attach Christianity with the likes of Westbro charlatans( I would hope they're run over by the Bikers who've been at the funerals) 3) Regardless of what you say of the President Elect(how's that) there is so much that we don't know or have conveniently dismissed about this man....he's not been vetted completely...certainly not with same vehemence directed at McCain/Palin. 4) McCains' campaign was the worst run campaign in decades, partly due to the splintered GOP, who can't figure out what they stand for in matching up to the Dems. While some of Somer's statements may have been excessive - I agree with her about Religion and Politics. The two should have absolutely nothing to do with each other and it is def. the #1 thing I have against Republicans.

Somehow Christians (not all but we all know what I'm talking about), especially the ones involved in politics, seem to feel that they are better than everyone and have higher moral standards than the rest of the country when they need to take a step back and realize that they are as messed up - or more so - than everyone else.
