im not arguing, i told you yesterday i respect you... i guess we just saw it a different way... my point is... any decent grade 1-2 speed horse, opens up off of those fractions and benny is second by 5, luckily for dutrow, they cought a weak group and benny outclassed them, which he should have,

The Bid 06-07-2008 11:30 PM

Eventhough Benny needed the race it woulda taken a 110 to beat him. Not many horses running that right now going 3/4

hockey2315 06-07-2008 11:31 PM

couldn't it just be that Benny's the best sprinter in the world? and even though the front-runner may have had a tactical advantage it wasn't enough to overcome his lesser ability compared to the winner?

he is hands down the best sprinter in the world right now....

it was a day filled with some very nice performances, but one that stands out to me is J Be K. He dueled between horses through fast fractions for about five furlongs, before drawing off by about five in less than 1:22 time.

someone may have mentioned this but the six furlong split in this race (1:08.78) was faster than the final time of the True North, 1:09.06

that was a big effort.

I noticed that also, I'm sure someone will weigh in and clarify the varying track variants with races later in the day, but that was one very good performance by the highweight which again sorry if I sound like a broken record, you just have to wonder how good Harlem Rocker is or can be.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-08-2008 10:18 AM

Zaftig was just plain awesome.

Desert Key did manage to run 0.26 seconds faster than Benny The Bull in a pair of races both at the 6f distance - but his trip was candy - still very impressive though.

J Be K obviously looked sharp as well.

hmm.. i am not to familiar with everything around here... but i dont think i would have went there.... i dont think ppl will be to happy with that comment

jcs11204 06-08-2008 10:41 AM

also gary s has always been good on the turf, i was told that when i was 10 at saratoga, and the group he faced was weak.

The race was freaking awful.

I would have bet Piazza at 3/1 in there.

the race was awful ? you mean what i just said above, that it was a bad group, and him winning was not that much of a suprise ?

ArlJim78 06-08-2008 10:45 AM

Piazza de Spagna was not a surprise to me. I had him rated well above the others in that field, with Smart Enuf the only one close. I think he looked so good because the rest of the field was terrible. seriously, there were no other horses that had any kind of late interest

Go back and compare his closing fractions in his previous races to that of the others in the field. He looked like the second most likely winner due to that fact alone.

ateamstupid 06-08-2008 07:42 PM

Zaftig, J Be K and Desert Key were all awesome.

i made the comment earlier in this thread that desert key could run with j be k, do you agree with that ?

Tough to say. They're both very nice horses, but J Be K has beaten more and better horses, so I'd give him the nod for now.

i guess thats spot on at this point, have to figure desert key has tons of room for improvment at this point though.

Belmont Day would of been a great day for me if Man of Danger held on. But Benny the Bull ran an amazing race considering the way the track was and the splits. The chart http://www.drf.com/drfPDFChartRacesI...=20080607&RN=6
says Man of Danger ran his eyeballs out only to be passed by a very talented sprinter.

This statement is so far from reality it defies logic. Bad field, Piazza had half way decent recent form and you're comparing Gary to Dutrow? Puh-leeze.

i pointed out that this statement would not be loved around here, even if it was somewhere else i still dont think that statement is legit

blackthroatedwind 06-08-2008 09:01 PM

Desert Key got away with a very easy first quarter. He might be a very nice horse, he wasn't awesome yesterday, but he has a little way to go before he it is really fair to compare him favorably to J Be K ( who I'm still a little dubious of though he ran well yesterday ).

Zaftig is a nice horse and the Mother Goose is threatening to be a corker.

pgiaco 06-08-2008 09:03 PM

Having been with Gary for as long as I have I can say he is NOT a cheater, no ifs, ands or buts.

You aren't serious, are you? The 1-2 favorite had a career-high Beyer of 71, while Sciacca's horse ran a 69 in his last race, and you're insinuating that funny money made him 4-1?

It is an unpopular comment because it implies some sort of chicanery when the truth is it is just flat out wrong. He was the 5:1 second choice ML.

I saw Gary cozying up to Bobby Flay yesterday. I told Bobby what he really needs is an Italian trainer.

Nick Zito.

Bobby would never get a negative food review from Gary. That has to count for something.

I don't know if I see Gary as a haute cuisine kind of guy.

i was shocked with how good pays to dream ran again.... i was against him..
i rated at least 5 horses in that race higher then him, very impressed with the ny bred.

blackthroatedwind 06-08-2008 09:25 PM

Pays to Dream has turned into a very good horse.

His performance in the Saranac at Saratoga last summer was exceptional all things considered.

Gary's an "any cuisine" type of guy. Don't get me started on desserts. Speaking of Pays to Dream does anyone know what happened to him yesterday?

hockey2315 06-08-2008 09:29 PM

I really can't believe he was 11-1. I played him and Strike a Deal pretty hard. I was thinking - with a horse like Pays to Dream - does the morning line end up determining how people read his last performance? If he's 4-1 on the ml instead of 8-1 does he still go off at 11-1?

I was thinking about that today as well. I figured he'd be 6-1 at the highest. I was as suspicious of the Dixie as anyone, but still thought that 11-1 was ridiculous.

To me he was very impressive, he's improved enormously in the last 6-7 months...

Desert Key did indeed get away with a soft quarter, but I still was impressed with how easily he disposed of Accredit, who also was on that modest quarter.

Accredit, despite my mistaken opinion this winter, is not much horse to say the least.

Do you think she'd be up to the Mother Goose, if Proud Spell and the Godolphin filly Music Note show up there? In the rather modest Nassau County, Zaftig looked dead on the turn, but the race fell apart in front of her and she went on to win. And my take from the Acorn was more a negative on Indian Blessing (and the other two fillies that didn't show up) than a positive on Zaftig.
