I'm not making excuses for him but this is an excerpt and I'm wondering if anyone thinks maybe there was something wrong? Not trying to be dramatic, just curious.
Overdose delayed the start by eight minutes, and he caused considerable problems for the other runners, most notably the second favourite Smooth Operator. Extremely discomfited, he reared up twice in the stalls and came back after the race with serious cuts to his face.
Bathed in sweat after finally consenting to enter the stalls...
