i think barrack and hilary are neck and neck, because i think they're too much alike. exactly what do you use to select one of the two? neither has that much experience. personally, i don't think having been first lady somehow qualifies a person for president. she was a lawyer, and is in her second term as senator. obama has mostly statewide experience, and is a first term senator.
two things that cracked me up were bill clinton playing the race card, trying to marginalize barrack and make the claim that obama couldn't carry the country. i think obama has proven him wrong. the other is bill claiming obama is too young, when obama is four years older than bill was when he ran. seems to me that they have pulled bill back, and will continue to keep him on a short leash for a while. i really think he hurt his wifes campaign recently.
as to who will win nationally....i really feel that mccain will win the presidency. i base that on the fact that the last election, a year ago, saw a real shift towards the more moderate candidates. of the three, i think mccain is the moderate. then there's the economical hiccups of late...many who voted for mccain recently said it was due to the economy-so much for those who feel that would be a reason NOT to vote for mccain.
obama and hillary both keep crying for change, but with volatility in the markets, housing being down, etc, many will look for someone with a lot of experience. no one wants to go thru the carter years again.


all in all, an interesting race. six months ago, everyone thought hillary was a shoe in, and that mccain was dead in the water....

obama has been doing very well in fundraising. he's really cut hillary's lead in the polls, and last i saw, actually lead in the amount of delegates received. by about six...but still a lead. hell of a contest.

I don't think McCain is very smart,but he is (to me) a fair person.I think he is as honest as a politician can be(which is difficult when trying to get elected.)I think either he or Hillary would do fine,but I worry about OBAMA taking too long to get going as President.That 1st year isn't that great for new President's,and for this guy,I think it would be real slow getting all the positions filled etc. Either of the 3 ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THIS CLOWN WE HAVE.

I completely agree. As I said before, I am a big Obama supporter so perhaps I am not completely impartial, but I get so tired of hearing her talk about all of her experience. Counting Obama's time as a state legislator, he actually has more legislative experience than she does! I don't think being first lady of Arkansas and the United States counts for very much. My wife is a microbiologist. Does that mean that I am somehow qualified to be a microbiologist? I assure you it does not. I will be sorely dissapointed if we end up with her as our nominee, although I will still probably vote for her...unless I defect to the Green Party.

I wonder how McCain will help the economy? Hmmmm....Going to more wars and continuing the war in Iraq doesn't seem like a good idea for the economy. Plus, he basically said that he would let all of his advisers handle the economic crisis. He will be a war president. For us that have family in the military, Navy, airforce, well, I think that Iran could get ugly. If they truly have nuclear weapons, what is going to stop Iran from trying to come over here? I have a feeling that Iran is going to put up a hell of a bigger fight than Iraq did.

The only reason that I don't like McCain is that I don't know who he is anymore. My Political Science professor used to talk to us about him all of the time. He is completely different from a couple of years ago, when I would have supported him. I just don't think that a war-loving president that is dumber than a box of rocks is the way to go after the current Bush Administration. I think you will see America take another turn for the worse with him in office.

If America is going to fucl< up again (we're already screwed with these candidates), we can at least put someone in office that has a bit of brains. I don't like the idea of a person with an IQ of a 110 respresenting our country as President....again.

I mean, I am going to be a health care professional. Universal health care will drastically change my field, and most likely for the worse. Yet, I would still vote for Hillary over McCain.

Doctors would have to see more patients for less money, and wouldn't have the time to be as thorough as they are now because there would be too many patients and not enough doctors. There are already shortages of certain doctors in some states.

In other words, people like me who have private health insurance wouldn't get the quality of care with universal health care. People that could afford private health insurance would get on an even longer waiting list if they needed a heart transplant...etc. with universal health care. You see this in all the other countries in the world that have universal health care.

Doctors make as much money as they do because it is so hard to become one, and the enormous amount of school loans you have to pay back if you become one. Who would want to be a doctor with universal health care? I know there would be a lot such as myself that might would have to reconsider that profession. I seriously might...I might go become an equine DVM instead.

People wouldn't lose their houses,and be in incredible ass-kicking debt.People don't seem to realize how many insured people are losing their financial health under this system of healthcare we have.I guess if you haven't seen it,then you're ignorant of it,but it's the #1 reason people have to go into bankruptcy/foreclosure.Insurance companies pay for a lil while,but if you have a baby girl with some kind of long illness,then many people will have to go into bankruptcy/foreclosure because of that illness.So complain all you want,but people aren't losing their houses due to medical bills in these other countries.We are against shared risk,because we are selfish people.So,think about this if you ever have to file bankruptcy due to overwhelming medical bills.It could happen.

I have seen it, and it is because these damn corporations that own the hospitals and insurance companies are ruining health care. The doctors already complain all of the time, and you will see less and less people want to become doctors if we keep heading in the direction that we are...

The colleges will not be able to charge as much for med school due to a lack of people wanting to go because the aspiring doctors won't be able to afford the school loans.

The wealthy people who have worked their asses off all of their lives so that they don't have to worry about financial problems such as these will get punished. The doctors are the ones that get punished, and the people that can afford private health insurance get punished in the end. I wouldn't expect anyone that doesn't have a doctor in the family would understand. We trade our lives to be doctors. Literally, we take years off of our lives to help people. We trade years off of our lives to make money so that our families don't have to worry. And I just think there are a lot of people like me that will have to reconsider becoming a doctor, which means that there would be less doctors to go around. Like I said, some states already are struggling with this...

America is a great and powerful nation because of our system of capitalism. It makes people like me more competitive and want to succeed more. Why would I want to push myself so hard if I could only have whatever everybody else had? I wouldn't. I just don't think socialism/communism is the way that we should go. Like I said, you don't understand. There would be noone who would take years off of their own life and do what we're doing if he/she couldn't make a good living doing it. You can't possibly know how hard it is... My dad had a heart attack before the age of 50 because his job is so stressful. He puts people to sleep for a living. My boyfriend has high cholesterol at the age of 28 because he was so stressed out going through his school. He did it so that he can provide for his family. My dad did it because he liked medicine and wanted to provide for his family. Both of them deserve all the credit in the world for doing what they have done, and it feels good when you are able to help people I have even had a boyfriend who said that he didn't want to date me because I wanted to be a doctor due to the fact that I would never be home. And doctors don't make millions.... We do want to help people and love medicine, but we wouldn't be doing it if we couldn't make the living that we can because it is just too hard. Well,we need people who want to be doctors.People who enjoy practicing medicine.People who would want to do it regardless of what it paid.If that means identifying them young,and paying for their education in medical school,then that's what we need to do.Then we need to make their jobs less stressful.To be honest,we have a system like this in our education system.It's not teachers fault that people don't take advantage of of what they have to offer.Atleast the teachers are there for the right reason(they like to teach.)Just read some of PGRDN's stuff about his job.He likes his job.He likes to teach.It's not about the money.It's what he would naturally want to do.People who are doctors should find themselves drawn to it for reasons that have nothing to do with money.They should find themselves doing it naturally.Like a singer sings,and a teacher teaches.

No one can go through the process of becoming a doctor naturally. It is unnatural for the human body and mind to have to go through this. People who get into these kinds of professions enjoy punishing themselves. My boyfriend works 60+ hours a week, and my dad works up to 80 hours a week sometimes. You trade your life to do this... No one is going to go through this unless they absolutely love it, and have good compensation for their dedication, pain, and suffering.

That's why I laugh when people say that they enjoyed college. College is not enjoyable for the pre-med student. We don't eat and don't sleep. We do it because we want it so bad. We do want to help people, that is our main goal...but there is no use in doing this for 12 years if you aren't compensated for it. Then, we would just go be nurses or PAs or physical therapists or something along those lines instead of having to go through this...

You can't eliminate the stress because there aren't enough doctors to go around, and it takes a very special individual to become a doctor. Most are brillant and are willing to work 10x harder than most people. There aren't enough people with the qualities necessary to be one, and people certainly shouldn't be allowed to go to medical school if they don't have these qualities. That would be the only way to get more doctors out on the market, would be to allow unqualified individuals to get the degree.

I walk around like a damn zombie most of the time, can't ride my horses at all (haven't seen mine in over a month) and med school will be even worse... I have traded my horses for this.... I have traded my life for this.

I think the profession is getting the wrong end of this deal.

Girl,it's not working.These other countries have roughly the same or more doctors,and all except JAPAN have more nurses/1000 people.We spend about double what these countries do for healthcare/person.It's not due mainly to malpractice suits,or defensive medicine(maybe 9% of it is.)It's not due to people having to be on waiting lists to have surgeries(in the other countries.)It's due to being charged too much to pay for fancy cars,homes,boats,and bullshit for doctors and insurance executives.We are spending more and getting the same care,or worse.We have the highest infant mortality of any of these countries.What you don't have in these other countries are people losing every penny they ever had to pay for medical bills.None of the people in these countries have to file for bankruptcy/be foreclosed on because of their med insurance stopped paying for services after a couple months.

What volunteer work have you done for hospitals or in the medical profession? You must have done alot for you to be talking down to me about it.

Also, why don't you go become a doctor? You pull the all-nighters, do all the volunteer work, take all of the tests for 12 years, and then have 300,000 dollars in medical school bills left to pay. We'll see if you still feel the same way after you become one. Or you be the patient that has private health insurance, but can't the get heart transplant that you so desparately need because all those ahead of you that you paid for have universal health insurance.

Also, your statistics are off for those other countries. The demographics are different for the USA, so you have to take that doctor/patient ratio with a grain of salt. The USA has more degenerative disease cases than any of the other countries that you mentioned.

Canada's health care system isn't that great. You here about it all of the time.

Nothing at UNC Chapel Hill is a breeze, and many doctors get Bs in Organic Chemisty and Calculus. So, I laughed when you used the word science courses at a college like this and breeze in the same sentence. Oh, and if I applied to med school tomorrow, my GPA is high enough to get in, but it has hardly been a breeze. Being a doctor is never a sure thing, no matter how smart or dedicated you are. It is that hard. The general population must be unaware of that.

You live in a fantasy world with these sorts of things. Counting the days before med school starts? I have known quite a few doctors that took time off after their BS before going back to school to do what they do. My dad is one of them, and he is great at what he does.

The profession is not getting the wrong of the deal. It is what it is. I don't sugar coat anything. Many doctors have told me what I was about to get myself into. It is not a happy-go-lucky job. You work all of the time, and don't have time to do much else. Many people have tried to talk me out of it for this reason. There are few jobs that are more difficult. You also have to always worry about screwing someone elses life up = STRESS!!!! But, when you consider that you can help someone else out or save a life at the end of the day...then, it is all worth it.
