Went to LA on business from SC and dragged some fellow employees with me telling them all the way how I knew the horses, which they did not.
Well they bet my selections for the first four-five races which all lost. With each losing race they were getting more and more pissed at me and started to make comments about me knowing nothing. The started betting on their own and the next race I hit a 50/1 shot (Plenty of Grace) on top of a $1,150 exacta, to this day my biggest hit. Turned to them and said, "see I told you I knew what I was doing"! Happened 12 years ago and still have the chart framed in my office. |
While I have nothing that can top the picture of Byk and gf from 1990:D , my best walk in score came in the late 80's at Hindsdale Greyhound park in NH. I was Driving to the track through Brattleboro Vt., and some idiot nearly hit me as he cut in front of me by the bridge. I was so pissed and then I had to follow him as he plodded along for the next few miles. He turned into the track , and I thought about confronting him but I kept my cool. For some reason I had been staring at his license plate 647 XXX or something. I walked in the door and the were putting the dogs in for the 3rd race. I went straight to the window and boxed the 467 tri and quinella. Came in 764, I cashed 700+ for 1.00 tri, and 2.00 Q. Never cashed another ticket, and walked out 600 ahead.

The only times I have been at The Wiener's Circle is when I (and every other patron) was hammered. Kinda funny seeing 20 or so people sh#tfaced... eating...falling down....etc. Now the lady who works the counter and her behavior...thats a whole story in it's own. |

It's your typical young drunk crowd. When I was 25 I would be there acting like the rest of the idiots....but am not at that stage anymore. While there are a decent amount of yuppies there, it's mostly drunk dudes who struck out at the bars....or drunk chicks .....who struck out at the bars. I havent been there in years since I moved, so I imagine it might be different. Wait....did you say the food is real good? You must have been drunk when you posted this.....unless one has 20 beers in them, that food is NOT good. |

Never made it to Melrose Park when I lived there. Lived as far north as Wrigley area....then downtown right in the middle of the loop (conveniently located 2 blocks from Jackson St OTB.) The only time I left that area was to go out to Arlington. My only complaint about the food in Chicago was the Pizza......it is just plain horrible out there. Someone needs to explain to the makers of deep dish pizza that what they are creating is not called pizza...its called lasagna. Best Pizza in Chicago....Cafe Luigi.....in Lincoln Park....why...because it's NY Style. |

From the looks of your post I think you ate one too many meals at the Wiener Circle. I need the decoder to figure out what the hell you are saying. |

Tommy, how many days do you think it would take you to find Central and Montrose if you went by yourself? |
Quote:
Actually, my dad grew up right there so I know that area pretty well. If I remember correctly, we used to get off at the Montrose 90 exit and then zoom by that park, gas station,Kentucky Fried Chicken, and my favorite Chinese restaurant, TONY's......I haven't been in the area for some years though since my Grandma passed a while back. |

East to West.... Western>>California>>Kedzie>>Central. Each of those are, indeed, 8 blocks apart. From the Montrose Saloon to Central is 13 blocks, not 40. And it's maybe a mile. 13, 40.... all must seem the same to you when you are drunk and sitting on the bus stop bench for a 1/2 hour. It's understandable. |

In the Sportsbook at Bellagio a couple years back with a group of friends none of whom were into horse racing. Had someone's leftover past performances in front of me and happened to notice a race at some junk track a few minutes to post with six need the lead horses and one capable closer. The capable closer was going off at 7-1 so I figured what the hell I'll make a bet. Wound up just playing a $2 exacta straight of the closer over the speed horse I thought was most likely to hold on. I tell my friends to watch this race, the one horse will start out way behind and blow by them all at the end and win. The break from the gate and it really looks hopeless, he must be about 20 lengths back. My friends are all laughing at me and I tell them to wait and gain more confidence that I'm right as the fractions roll on the screen and they continue to laugh oblivious to what 21.4 means. Sure enough it plays out exactly as I predicted and he blows by and as an added bonus the speed horse I played in second holds on for second. Only paid $65 but looking like a fricken genius in front of all my friends was priceless. Only bet I placed that day.
