in your favor, i'll have to weigh this possibility for my own funeral against the prior plan to have my corpse dumped out of a plane over disneyland. i'll let you know if i'm offended or thankful once i decide. |
Just to clarify....we could use God Bless America or America The Beautiful.....or just alternate.
And we are the only nation to certify our belief that church shall be kept separate from state...for those who aren't up to snuff on that sort of thing.....Dannie. |

Hey...don't listen.
I don't care! |
Wow, hard to believe people get upset about the lack of the National Anthem before a game. I had actually forgotten they play the Anthem at the track until visiting Saratoga this year. Most people look at it as an inconvenience to stop and be quiet for a few minutes.
I'm as patriotic as the next guy, probably moreso than most, but I don't think this is any big deal. |

You filthy naybob of nincompoopism! You are entitled to your yak like opinion. But just you keep one thing in mind ...sir. The guy that went on perimeter patrol even though the weather was inclement and he had lost his best friend the night before having watched his head disappear ..he probably wasn't too crazy about his own inconvenience either. So if we can't take 2 stinking minutes to remember guys like this before sporting events....which are a luxury.....when that 2 minutes can be seen to be " no big deal" then we get what we have today which will become more and more over the tomorrows. Now if you can claim you have done that ....that's a different story. I was in the Marines....but I never had to actually fight in a war. Hundreds of thousands to date have. If they think as you......then I admit to being a fool. |
But I appreciate your Dannie like input.
Thank you so much. |

Oh.
Another thought. That's the really great thing. These guys did all they did so we can still live where you don't have to play the anthem or any other patriotic song before a sporting event...and if they do play it.....you can kibitz or even talk on your cell phone to the Michigan president. One could even burn the flag while the song was being played. None of that is illegal...it's a free country. Nothing says you have to do it. |

Yes it is.......they still played the game...didn't they? That's the level of importance it is given. The spirit of God Bless America,America the Beautiful or the Anthem is allowed to be there thanks to football. I thought it was the other way around. |
Fucl<in' aye!!
God I have great thoughts! What if on that national stage with a stadium missing many fans and the game about to go on.........and I don't know if the sound system didn't work or if they had a band there...say they could not do either. But did do somehing even if it was a person...anyone.....who went out to the 50 and sang one of those songs. What a tremendous opportunity to display what this really should mean to us all. But no....delay already too long ....just not industrious enough to come up with a way to get this "inconvenience" done.....but industrious enough to think of excuses as to why it wasn't. |
I came to this thread much too late. It has already been hijacked by a moron...err...morty.
|
Well Morty Moron ,notroious thread hijacker, has said all he is going to say about it.
I don't even have to come back here to listen to these swell songs because I have them in fav places and play them at least once a day. This odd habit of mine is a great inconvenience to me ,but I do it as self punishment for being a raging idiot..... and I don't like pain. |

I really meant it for the ones who seemed to have a problem with The Star Spangled Banner...but anyone could have commented .You show great guts because, as you know, today I have been outted as : A raging moron. A thread hijacker. Oh.....and now... A BIG LIAH Fine work.....thank you so much. |

I guess I am a fool:
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Sports in America start with the national anthem. The Dolphins- Steelers game was an exception. Rushing to begin the nationally televised matchup following a 25- minute weather delay, the NFL chose to skip the anthem Monday night before Miami played Pittsburgh. The game started without any of the traditional pregame ceremonies, except the coin toss, and neither team was introduced on the public address system. According to the Steelers, the NFL wanted the game to begin as soon as possible following the delay. Several more minutes would have been needed to set up a microphone and sound equipment at midfield, where the anthem is traditionally performed at Steelers games. There was no apparent fan reaction to the omission, which occurred as many fans were scrambling to get back to their seats for the kickoff. The fans were ordered to leave the lower seating bowl at Heinz Field when lightning and a heavy rain resulted in both teams being waved off the field during pregame warmups. The teams warmed up for an additional nine minutes before the game began at 8:55 p.m. EST. Pittsburgh won 3-0 on Jeff Reed's 24-yard field goal with 17 seconds remaining. National anthems are rarely televised during NFL games, with the Super Bowl being an exception, so there was no indication if any veterans groups were unhappy with the omission. |
This is probably a much better thought:
Letter: National anthem has no place on gridiron stage Sunday, December 2, 2007 With the failure to present the national anthem at the Pittsburgh Steelers-Miami Dolphins Monday Night Football game, perhaps the team and the National Football League are on to something. Singing the beautiful and stirring theme of our nation always has been out of place at an event where many individuals who have painted parts of their bodies black and gold come to watch a rough contact sport, to engage in rip-roaring rooting for their team, and to become intoxicated. The singing of the national anthem at such an event makes as much sense as saying grace at a strip joint. The national anthem, in all its majesty, should be sung at events that afford it the dignity it deserves. A professional football game not only does not qualify, but singing it on such an occasion is an insult to the patriotism and heartfelt sentiment that the anthem was designed to evoke. Oren M.
