ALTHOUGH TECHINCALLY A ROAN:

How did you all forget Winning Colors? She is almost all white now. LOVE this filly. I so wanted her to be a good mama. :)

dellinger63 07-11-2006 07:43 PM

maybe it's a local thing but Zen was a great IL sire who usually produced winners.

zippyneedsawin 07-11-2006 08:16 PM

DWL and Baffert are definately greys!! ;)

Gander 07-11-2006 08:16 PM

Boom Towner, Lottsa Talc, Iron Gavel, Federal Funds, Jacksonport, Punkin Pie, Shoop, Genes Gray Girl, Medical Pro, Catchin Air.

Back in the hey day of racing. The old NY hard knockers, horses you could lay money down and actually have confidence in.

Gander 07-11-2006 08:27 PM

Last I knew he was out of the business, not sure what he is doing.

That was back when racing was far better, dont you agree Da Hoss?

More to Tell use to love to beat me. Gosh that horse was a thorn in my side!

Remember Royal Haven? One of the better claims of all time. I think he ran 2nd or 3rd in the Penn Derby.

Cajungator26 07-11-2006 08:58 PM

Silverfoot is one of my faves. He's gorgeous.

Yeah, I love him too....there is not a single horse on the Churchill Downs backstretch during training hours that gets more attention...he is an eye-catcher with his near-white coat and huge self galloping through a sea of smaller chestnuts and bays...it is actually pretty cool to watch...

I like him a lot... he's gotten lighter and lighter with age.

2Hot4TV 07-11-2006 09:24 PM

Vigors, one of the best closers of all time. He was almost white.

blackthroatedwind 07-11-2006 10:49 PM

I don't believe Boom Towner was a grey but I do believe he was a swayback.

I think Gaspar may live somewhere in the Saratoga area. He's a good guy. I miss having him around the track in NY.

I never talked to him about it but he said a lot in the papers. My recollection was that he felt all the horses he was claiming were lame.

Al Hattab..He also had a gene that was so dominant that all of his offspring were grey

It's because he was a homozygous grey (he carried two grey genes.) It would be interesting to find out how many of his foals he passed that on to... each foal received one grey gene from him, so the ones that received one from their mother's would have been homozygous grey also. Cool.

Damascus '67 07-12-2006 06:15 AM

From what I understand, every darn one of them.

Those were the good old days.My favorite 3 greys were Ruritania and Shy Dawn and Saturday Morning.Ruritania raced against Secretariat,Shy Dawn had a tremendous closing kick and Saturday Morning was my 1st big mutual when he paid over $60 in the 9th race at Belmont with Eddie Maple aboard.

Interesting reading these. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because I personally have a hard time finding greys or roans "beautiful"

Those were the good old days.

Your not kidding Mermaid. I found racing, especially in NY, wonderful in the early to late 90's. They just dont make horses like they use to and finding a favorite has been tough. Back then there were so many horses you just had to root for. Now it seems like a dime a dozen.

I have seen Gasper in Saratoga recently so I have to believe he lives here or at least owns a house here.

He had a horse called Genes Gray Girl who use to win all the time in close photos. That horse would always get her nose down first. I know he made a ton of money betting on that horse during the Toga meet. Always use to go off at 5/2 and usually won.

eurobounce 07-12-2006 09:20 AM

How about Alphabet Soup. Wasnt this horse grey?

Gander 07-12-2006 09:28 AM

Yes he was. Nice horse.
