Doesn't look like the sire and dam names leave us much in terms of creative pedigree names. There were already some good names suggested in the one thread that could be the early frontrunners, "Last Post" is probably the one I like the most for a filly.

how does alpha tauri sound???

aldebaran is the brightest star in the constellation taurus. alpha tauri is its bayer designation.
thank goodness for google! i knew aldebaran came from the taurus constellation...but that was all i knew.

Danzig 09-17-2007 12:33 PM

http://www.crystalinks.com/aldebaran.html

there's a link to an explanation of aldebaran...maybe the genesis of a name in there.

Danzig 09-17-2007 12:40 PM

'Astrologically, Aldebaran was a fortunate star, portending riches and honor. This star is one of the four "royal stars" of the Persians from around 3000 BC. As the star of illumination, Aldebaran irradiates the Way using the applied power of transformation. In seeking illumination, we can cultivate the ability to use the mind as a reflector of soul light. The other three Royal Stars are Antares in the constellation Scorpio the Scorpion, the Western Royal Star, Regulus in the constellation Leo the Lion, the Northern Royal Star, and Fomalhaut in the constellation Pisces Austrinus, the Southern Fish - close to the constellation Aquarius - the Southern Royal Star.'

that was from the link above....

also this:

Aldebaran is called the Eye of Revelation. Life is filled with Metaphors and Revelations.

I don't think we want to call her "The Follower" unless we want a plodder.

lol

there's plenty of other stuff in there! of course it gets kind of weird further down in the article...

donna gatto means cat woman i suppose....
no doubt someone will come up with something.

Cajungator26 09-17-2007 12:51 PM

Spiggle24 09-17-2007 12:55 PM

How about ALDEBARANS CAT? Gatto = Cat in Italian

More likely at Churchill.

Chuck trains at Fairgrounds, KY circuit and Saratoga.

right. donna gatto--cat woman.

but i agree that there are too many cats out there.

Danzig 09-17-2007 01:13 PM

regulus is the royal star from the constellation leo (which fits in with the cat as well as the name from the sire) but i don't think regulus is a fillies' name...

here's a link to wikipedia on the constellation leo:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_(constellation)

or we could just call her fred.

Is there an easy search to see what the five Read the Footnotes offerings sold for?

The website appears to be down...

NoLuvForPletch 09-17-2007 01:19 PM

They haven't gone through the ring yet.

You're talking about hips 3674, 3846, 4946, 5133 and 5139 right? I like Read the Footnotes as well... his babies looked really good when I saw them last year. Hope he's a success.

Colts by Medaglio d'Oro; Gulch; Officer; Smart Strike; Street Cry; Johar; Dixieland Band; Mr. Greeley; El Corredor and Benchmark... Fillies by Harlan's Holiday; Indian Charlie; More Than Ready; Friends' Lake; Gulch; Medaglio d'Oro and Stormy Atlantic...

More as the day unfolds!

Congrats on the purchase.

My opinion on the name of the filly:

Since she's the first that you guys get to name, the name should have something to do with the forum or the lingo used in a forum and not the stars........ something like "Post Reply" or "Members List"...etc

yeah, that's too bad.

or maybe not actually. he sure gets expensive yearlings considering how AWFUL the mares sent to him are. i'd say at least 95% of the mares sent to him are either unraced or won no more than once.

DT's First. but then, she's really not the first....sumwon is. she's just the first to be named. hmm...

Good thing we hit where we did and weren't waiting for him... That is typical of what has been going on.. Identify horse; price them at @ $50k; Watch as they go for more... Chuck didn't think that colt was worth more than $50k either, but so many have been flying past the target sum like that and selling at 40-50% more than anticipated...

Glenye Cain (DRF) on 'At the Races' tonight (4:45) to talk about just that phenomenon the past 4 days at the sale...

lol

yeah, that would work but then the question begins on how the race caller pronounces...

Scav 09-17-2007 01:33 PM

While exciting, everyone needs to chill on the naming game, y'all should just let Steve name as he is creative and will figure out something awesome, and it eliminates possible jealousy and in-fighting about how someone got to name the horse.

After all, he has put this whole shindig together, he should get the honor of naming it, as long as he promises me not to get all crazy with the english language

just fun speculation so far...he says a naming contest...we shall see.

as long as it isn't something silly like oh...majestic warrior. :D

He said it would be a contest. We're just having fun... no seriousness involved on my end.

I know, it is fun.

Just think he should name the horse, that is all, it eliminates so much possible hilariousness and we all know he will a good job.
